Jay the way i understand the rules is.

to get national or state IMCA points you must run all 4 tires imca stamped tires.

you can't hold a sport mod licence if you drive a A-mod. (going to be hard to police) but read the article below that was on the imca web site.

C RAY will not let let you drive two class of cars at a ncra event either.

I haven't heard if you have to purchase a licenese to run at Enid? The licence is $90

Maybe Ed can answer this question.

No Modified drivers allowed in Southern SportMods this season

Feb 22, 2011 Comments Off by Rick

VINTON, Iowa – Modified drivers won’t be allowed to compete in the Smiley’s Racing Chassis Southern SportMod division this season, regardless of whether they compete in IMCA sanctioned or non-sanctioned events.

“Our main objective is that the drivers who benefit from higher paying special events for SportMods are the drivers who have supported the division during the season,” explained IMCA Vice President of Operations Brett Root. “It’s not fair to them that a Modified driver can borrow a SportMod, race and go home with $2,000.”

IMCA announced last January that the 2010 season would be the last in which drivers could compete in both the Modified and Southern SportMod divisions. The Modified-Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod combination has never been allowed.

Modified-Late Model, Modified-Stock Car and SportMod-Stock Car or Hobby Stock license combinations will be permitted again in 2011. Mach-1 Sport Compact drivers may not compete in any other division.

“We can keep track of drivers racing at sanctioned events using race reports submitted to the home office. We will have to use other means to know who’s racing non-sanctioned Modifieds,” Root said. “Our position is that if a driver is racing a Modified, licensed or not, we will not issue them a license to compete in a sanctioned SportMod event.”

Root, Competition Director Tom Gutowski and ButlerBuilt South Central Region Director Davey Plato will attend a number of Southern SportMod specials during the season to ensure Modified regulars are not interloping for bigger potential paydays.

Among the specials getting more attention will be the Southern SportMod Nationals, during the Labor Day Weekend at Boyd Raceway.

“We will try to be as objective as we can. We realize that for whatever reason, there will be a number of drivers going from a Modified to a SportMod,” Root said. “We’ll do our best to keep track of who is racing what and where and address guidelines as the season progresses.”

Hey kevin, so this is only at IMCA sanctioned events correct? Im fairly sure that the 3,000.00 to win show in Enid wont be IMCA sanctioned even if Enid is going to IMCA... Also I was wondering if anyone knows who is going to be certified in Enid to do IMCA tech? I know if your IMCA sanctioned that you are not allowed to just hire any joe and say they are your tech guy...

It really makes no sense to me at all to keep the A mod guys out, the last 2500.00 to win show in Enid and there were plenty of A Mod drivers cuz there was an A mod show at same time and if I remember correctly there wasnt an A mod driver in the top 3....

just my own humble opinion here....

anyways if its not an IMCA sanctioned event then it doesnt matter, is that correct?

i know this race last year in dodge city was sanctioned by the IMCA. The IMCA had their own tech guys from different areas.

I don't know about a tech guy on a regular basis. By my understanding they all going to be sanctioned the mods and sportmods anyway. So the mods drivers want to run Beaver and Enid for state points. Enid is the only IMCA sport mod track at this time running for state points. Just like ELK CITY last year was the only imca track. so, their track champion was the state champion.

ok thanks was really helpful....

i was wondering because Enid isnt listed anywhere on IMCA tracks list and none of Enid shows are listed on there. no chance at competing for a national IMCA title when the leaders already have over 500 pts after last weekend.

my point wasnt if it was a sanctioned race at all...

Its just my opinion that its a much bigger draw if guys driving A mods are allowed to race. My point here is there are a few from enid now, if you go by what Ed Beckley has stated, that will not be allowed to race southern sportmods in Enid. Here is a perfect example, Kip Hughes, raced A mod this year but has changed and went and got him a sportmod. If Ed doesnt change the rule then a fan favorite in Enid wont be allowed to race his car in Enid. I believe its a shame for this to happen.

My next is why even sanction with IMCA when there isnt another track in Oklahoma that has IMCA sanction for sportmods. There will be absolutely no chance for a Enid car to win a regional or national IMCA points championship! Again, this is just my opinion but seems like a person couldve taken the money it takes to sanction a class and just have your own points fund...

Jayson, if those guys want to travel Texas to gett more national points they can. Have you even looked how the points system works.Maybe you need to check into things before you start slamming people. Its like the USRA points system. Also, If you think ED is doing such a bad job. Why did you put a bid in to run the track every week. Since you have all the answers.

okay kevin snow,

let me answer you one point at a time so even you can understand...

I was stating my opinion, not slamming Ed Beckley.

Yes, I know exactly how the points system works, do you? So you think the guys here should pull 3 hours one way to gain national points...(that sounds real plausible)...

Not saying I have all the answers at all, just saying that the IMCA sanction on the sportmods doesnt do anyone that is a local racer any good at all. There are some real good modified drivers that have sportmods that will not be allowed under the rules that Ed has stated Enid will be running. Are you okay with that? I know when Milt and I had the frogzilla sportmod we were glad to see the A mod drivers in the line up.

Wow, still cant believe you said "if those guys want national points they can go to texas" !!!! your statement makes my whole point so thanks

This blows as I was going to stop in on my way home from Beaver and the NCRA southern sport mod race that previous night. If I am asked to cover it that is.

What was once a promising and exciting four race swing has now been reduced too two nights. It was to start at Thunderbird Speedway in Muskogee on Thursday night (cancelled), then go to Brill Motor Speedway on Friday night. Then they go to Route 66 Motor Speedway in Amarillo on Saturday night before they were headed to Enid that Sunday night (cancelled).

It is what it is as they say.

you know that being said its a shame that the racers and fans alike just keep getting jacked around at enid, i enjoy the enid racetrack and going to races there, but after a while as a racer and fan enough gets to be enough ,you know its the middle of may and no racing, pretty soon trust in a track gets lost, and its shame enid was once a nice and respectful place to race or watch races. Not sure whats going on in enid but i hope they get it straightened out before its to late if its not already to late..the loyal and saturday night enid racers and fans that i have talked to just want some races in enid before the snow sets in, with the schedule on hold and ncra and now usmts cancelled makes a person look at other facilities in oklahoma to go to.....

and don't make it look like Ed and Enid Speedway are the bad guys here as far as cancelling events. This seems to be common place at several tracks and has got worse. There was to be a big MLRA late model show at Outlaw this Friday but it got cancelled. Then the afore mentioned USMTS show at Thunderbird Speedway.

There have also been tracks in Texas that cancelled special events so it is just not Ed and Enid Speedway.

I couldnt agree with you more hudsonparts. I told everyone that I wouldnt bash a promoter so I wont.

Is one reason why I will continue to go else where to enjoy racing. As for thunderbird and USMTS, heck, I didnt even know they were going there cause its no where on USMTS Schedule but it would be cool to see them on that half mile. I just think its wrong to the fans, no matter the track, to use a series to hype everyone up and then 2 weeks before they are supposed to race cancel the show.

As for Enid, I'm sure they will be back to racing one sunday a month fairly soon and I'm sure Ed will be quite happy with his return from them races. I just dont see it hard at all to put fans in the stands on a sunday, once a month, and it shouldnt be hard to get a car count on sundays(no one else is racing).

david is right this is happening all to often anymore. but im mainly concerned with enid, the way the schedule is off and on aswell as rules. i dont know what the problem is but i do know it is a problem, it just seems as if the racing is taking 3 steps back at enid. im not a fan with how things are being handled there but there is nothing i can do about it. seems like alot of fans and drivers are looking elsewhere. bad deal all the way around
