I was also at the WoO race at the Hartford, SD half mile where Sammy was MUCH faster then the rest of the field. It wasn't the Federal Express car, it was the Nance #1n. I think it was 1981.
In the feature Kinser was leading, Wolfgang 2nd and Sammy all over him in 3rd. As they were passing a lapper coming out of turn 4 (I'm thinking it was Rich Brahmer??) Swindell inside and Wolfgang outside, Sammy got into the lapper who got into Doug and Doug barrell rolled down the front chute. The huge crowd ( a WoO program from about 2005 that I can't find said 8700 people) went berserk over the hometown favorite getting taken out. I believe Sammy also had to pit with a bent wheel or something. Kinser ended up winning. Crazy memory of a race night from a LONG time ago. If someone else can fill in some blanks of that night please do.
