First and foremost Sandusky is a pedophile.

here are a couple of details oftened omitted in the narrative:

1. Following a 1999 investigation by the state police - an investigation that has been detailed regarding Jerry's first exhibit of being more than a weirdo:

 a. Joe in December 1999 - not the board - not the AD told Jerry he would never be head coach at Penn State.

 b. The pedophile coached his last game in the December 1999 Alamo Bowl a 24-0 victory over Texas AM and as of January 1, 2000 was no longer an employee of Penn state...let alone on Joe's staff.

 c. Fall of 2000 I was stunned as a non alumni guest of a letterman from the 80's at games that fall the bitterness of many that Joe told Jerry this and Jerry the "golden child or chosen one" at the time was no longer with the program. If my memory recalls the pedophile was a finalist for the Virginia job.

2. this break was solid until the BOT granted the pedophile emeritus status...not sure the year but very early 2000's....

3. The Second Mile and CEO Jack Raykovitz would have been the pedophiles supervisor at the time of the shower 2001shower incident.

When Joe said "With the benefit of hindsight, I wish I'd done more" that is all I need to know about Joe.  Once he knew, from that point forward, he was just as guilty as Jerry for any crimes committed.

Joe reported him two times. The first time the Police and DA blew the investigation and Joe kicked Sandusky out of the football program. The second time the board of directors didn't act on it beause they had allowed him back on campas. He could have gone public with it and opened himself up to a law suit if it was blown again. It is easy to say you would do that when you are eighty. Moral of the story is everybody thought it was easier to blame an eighty year old who would soon be gone. This a staine on his legacy but few could claim to have done as good in their life as he did. People from outside the area have no clue.

This is spot on....egras with the benefit of hindsight is not an omission of guilt but an 80 year old man most likely wishing he would somehow been able to get the board of directors to revoke the pedophiles emeritus status....or used all this incredible power in 1999 and ordered the state police to charge him...

fact is when Joe had authority over the pedophile he removed him from the program despite the state police not following through....the second time when the pedophile was not an employee at the time Joe immediately reported him to his supervisors....

My only time I took up temporary residence in PA was when I was stationed at Lakehurst, NJ, and had to attend firefighting class at the Philly Navy base in 1971.  "Learn or burn" was their moto and betting on the fastest cockroach when we turned on the lights in the barracks was a nightly competition.

My attempt at attending a race at the Grove almost happened with a buddy from that area who invited me to his parents place in WV where it's close to PA.  His father let us down when he told us the season had just ended.  I guess 71 precedes last weeks event but it was in the fall about this time of year.

Stan - hope you are doing well.  1971 would not precede the first one.....the first one I believe was 1963 and the winner is the late Gordon Johncock.  I believe Conner Wade mentioned  he passed last Tuesday.

For me, I'd pack it all up and head to Indiana. All the non-wing racing you could want, plust the Outlaws and HL still swing through. Also, easier to make a road trip to see some other middle America tracks. I'd also love to find a low buck team that need someone to scrape mud or fetch tools and help out a bit, maybe learn some more of the tech stuff.

I saw 1961 and by the time I commented the brain wiring changed the 6 to a 7.  Thanks for the correction.  You saved me from a few dozen cat calls.

Now that made me laugh!  Although I did not exist until the 1967 open I sure do love my Dads proud proclamation about how Mitch use to kick the USAC boys butt whenever they came to town.

i know williamsgrove today may be under debate about their current significance and that is a matter of opinion.  I don't get to the grove very often anymore - but imho one cannot discredit the storied history of the place.
