First of all Johnny, you da man. Love your posts.
However, if my numbers are correct Steve won 156 features and 6 WoO championships AFTER splitting with Karl----all after 40 years of age. He also beat Karl head to head a few times with Karl's car in the field and Mark at the wheel. I would put this right up there with the Gordon/Evernham argument in NASCAR. How did Jeff do after Ray left? A championship and a ton of wins. How did Ray do? ...........................nothing to report here.
Was Karl a badass? sure. Give Steve some credit. He was the other 1/2 of the equation

They most certainly complimented each other. Steve could hold his own until Karl's setup came around when it counted.

This is a quote from Karl. IF STEVE IS THE KING, I AM THE KING MAKER.

Oh for sure. I wasnt trying to diminish Steve's accomplishments in any way. I just thought the quite obvious tongue-in-cheek quote, by whomever it was, was germane to the points that were being made about how great Karl was.
Thanks for the kind words. Your posts are on point as well. I know I'm gonna get a rational, cogent argument when I see your name at the top of the post.
Welp, I'm looking forward to downing some beers this weekend at Port. Have a good weekend, Sarge.

Have fun!!! I would love to join you, but I reside in the armpit of the US-----Northwest IL No sprint car racing within 2 hours and our governors all end up in prison making our license plates!!!

Alas.
NW Illinois isnt the armpit of the US. New Jersey is, both geographically and because of the way Hoboken and Bayonne smell.

Karl will always be remembered as one of the best crew cheifs of all time and his ability to have fun at the same time.Anyone that went on one of his famous bus rides at Knoxville Natinals will remember.Things were more fun when things werent so expensive. The speeds are still about the same but the rules and tires and wing restraints have led to the quest for more power.I know it wont happen but the 410 limit is one reason motors are getting to be over$70K as it seems about 950 H.P. is their max with the current configurations

I don't remember the year but it was at the Knoxville Nationals that Karl suffered an appendicitis attack and went to the hospital. I believe that is when he decided to retire from sprint car racing. Asa side note, does anyone know why Mark never moved to another team?

I believe Karl had stated that Mark had to retire due to a vision problem.....possibly depth perception. Check the open red podcast......and not just for that fact, but also for the entertaining remarks of Karl. It is a can't miss episode!! Mark's decision to retire along with Karl's age and accomplishments may have contributed to his own retirement. Why go on when you have nothing left to prove!

Mark got his bell rung and still has issues to this day. Karl lost desire after that and sponsorship. Steve pushed karl's set ups to the limit and they had there issues more than wonce. I saw steve cut the front tubes off the car and had the track welder pull over and he rewelded them with a stick welder, karl was in the trailer not very happy. By the way, he crushed the field and won going away. Steve Kinser will always be the king, are there guys just as good ? No doubt. But he did it night after night, rarely did they have a off night. After the failed nascar deal he came back and was just as dominate. The 2 of them acted as those they didn't even no each other. I've always wondered , if the 2 of them would sit down at a round table, which one would walk out first ?
