Gravel runs the 41 plus a few truck races.

Stewart drives for Justin Marls.

I'm not questioning the cost of racing but if the 41 cant make it with the Nats win, the extra Nats sponsorship and a pretty good year with 16 or more fast times and finishes to match , who can afford to race???

41 team is folding because it is too expensive.

Unhook the cars already.

I don't know who your source is or where you heard that from, but they're full of shit. That definitely isn't happening.

Now we know why Gordon was hanging around with Gravel all throughout Nationals. I was afraid Gordo was scouting for someone affiliated with NASCRAP. How long did he say it had been since he attended Nationals?

I never once got the impression that Jeff Gordon loves sprint car racing. Maybe at one time he did, but he hasn't for a long time. I don't know him so I could be totally wrong. Just the vibe I get. I think he likes it but he's not a died in the wool sprint car guy like Larson, Tony or Kasey. I've always had the same impression of Gravel. He's a professional. It's his job and he does it very well but I've always thought just by reading between the lines in interviews and stuff that he's more of a NASCAR guy and sprint car racing to him is either his path to get there or a good way to make a living if NASCAR never works out. Judging by things he's said, safety seems to be a big reason why. Either way, I wish him all the best and it does suck that we could be losing a guy who's in his prime and on the cusp of being a WoO champion.

A lot of people are saying it. What do you think the first five posts of this thread were about?

If Jeff Gordon was trying to get him a sprint car sponsorship I might believe you.

You can't make any money with the WoO with a hired driver without major sponsorship.

Whole team would be lucky to make $500k counting tow money and point fund even if you win Knoxville.

Driver gets 40%, engines, crew guys, diesel/racing fuel, tires and hotels get the rest. You end up with zero.

Amazing cinderella season. If couldn't make money this season is probably best to sell. Go out on top.

She has already paid a price for racing most of us will ever know.

A lot of people say a lot of things. Did you know Tony Stewart wants to buy Port Royal? Heard that one a few weeks ago. The first 5 posts on this thread were about the current driver at JJR transitioning to NASCAR. That has nothing to do with whether or not the JJR team is closing up. So they may need a new driver and they will find one. The 41 isn't going anywhere yet. Stay tuned.......

Remember when Jeff Gordon was going to start a WoO team for Stevie Smith with Pepsi & Fritos?  And when he was going to buy Millstream Speedway? lol

Racing has never been, at any level, the type of business where you go to your local banker, borrow a few million dollars, hire a driver and a crew, and start winning races and making money.  Ever.  There is money somewhere before the venture starts.  Whether it be in the form of family money,  money earned from other ventures, or money coming in from sponsors.  In the case of Jason, he was able to secure some good sponsorship, win a few big races, and keep the show on the road.  Those drivers that can afford all of their equipment, etc are usually either wealthy, extremely good at landing sponsorship $'s, or racing bombers and B-mods.  I cannot believe some of you keep trying to pencil out the purses, tow-money, and expenses and end up puzzled.  There is no penciling this out.

I don't farm now, but I grew up on a farm.  Racing is no different than farming.  No one is moving from the city with nothing, purchasing a farm, and all of the equipment needed to farm successfully, and making it go.  Not today.  Farming is a business reserved for those with old family money or money coming in from somewhere else.  Otherwise, you are farming to stay afloat----not farming to get rich.  As a very poor farmer once told me "I'm farming to make money and I cannot compete with the guys that are farming with money"   He was correct as he was driven out of business about 10 years ago.

As far as David Gravel, he needs to go where the money is.  If he does go to Nascar and land a big ride, I may want to turn on the TV to watch he, Kyle, and Christopher race.  ??

Very informative interview. he makes it pretty clear: he'd like to go to NASCAR & occasionally run sprints like Larson & Bell, but he's not sure what will happpen. He mentions more money & safety with NASCAR... sounds like a no brainer if he gets an offer

I'll miss him if he leaves sprints for good... met his parents at their body shop in Watertown this spring

Great analogy and an even better observation, a couple more posts this intelligent and you find yourself on the outside looking in.  You make a lot of people in here irrellevant with that kind of logical thinking, job well done....

If David doesn't go back there not folding because it's to expensive, it's because bobbi wants to raise Jax as a normal kid
