I was impressed. Schatz had fast time in his group, won the heat, advanced to 3rd in A Main
Definitely competitive. Variety is the spice of life (& I'm a Ford fan, but not a fanatic like some former HHers! )

Schatz was the best car in the field last night. A better pill draw and he probably wins.

What would the pill draw have done? He ran 3rd for well over 1/2 the race. With 10 to go top 5 were all with in a second of each other.
I would have loved to have seen the Ford get the win, and there will be many to come.
Great job by Marks to make the best of his opportunity after finally timing in the top 16.

Put Schatz in the first 2 rows last night and he would have won easily.

And the track locked down with rubber well before the half way point. He went from 8th to 3rd in the first 15 laps. In the meantime, the dream-team had the back-up beeper on from the drop of the green. The 15 was the best car all night last night even if it pains you to admit it. Kudos to the entire 15 team for deciding to make the change with the points chase as tight as it is.

Since 15 put the Ford in the car he has gained about 28 points on the 49. Just saying.
|
If the 15 wins the championship it will be because of the Ford based motor. If he doesnt it will be because of motor change. When in reality He is one of the very best plus he is with a top team ,and if Ricky is back in pits one of best crew cheifs. He will go down in the history of sprint car racers as one of the best . There are a lot of factors to consider but in consistency the 15 team is near or at the top.

Disagree about being the best car. Schatz had a good q run in his group and did what he had to do when he hit the track.
Fastest car IMO was the 21 of Montieth. Guy timed ok even though he was the next to last car to time. He also got stuck behind Cory Haas in his heat race. Cory was way off pace compared to everybody else, he just couldn’t get around him. He gets by Haas and he has a shot at starting way farther up in the field if not possibly starting in the dash if he could pass second.
Obviously it didn’t happen though and it’s why you have to put it all together at a woo race to even have a shot. That was a bad fast hot rod though

And with 9 races left after tonight (don’t know how the National open is gonna turn out yet) if either of them really screw up and Gravel keeps on doing what he has been they will both get beaten.
|
Very true. The battle right now is definitely between the 15 and the 49 BUT the 41 is right there to pounce should they both slip. It's unlikely but definitely not impossible. One thing is for sure, whoever gets this title definitely earned it. It's been a dogfight all year long. Fun stuff for us fans to watch.

Do you really believe that they don't have the engine program worked out? It would NEVER of been in the car if it wasn't ready. It will be good to see another manufacturer in the series again. Someone said it will make costs rise? How?? Now teams have 2 choices of engine manufacturers. I grew up being a GM lover, hated Ford. But since the bailout I wouldn't buy a GM product(2009 or newer) to save my life. Now they strike cause $28/hour isn't enough for an UNSKILLED job. Yeah, I am done with GM.

And, as much as I dislike Schatz, he is a hell of a racecar driver! There isn't anyone as good as he is in modern times! Sure, you can compare guys to him, but he is on his game for years! Yes, the 49 might win the championship but how many in a row has Donny won? Its like he doesn't have 20+ wins this year, hells gonna freeze over. Everyone has their off years! Yes, I dislike Schatz... But can't deny his talent!

Ricky has been working on the Ford engine for over a year. So he knows more about than anyone else there

How much tweaking do they do to engines on race night. I know snowmobiles rejet for temperatures and humidity and pressure etc. What do they do to sprint cars as the night gets cooler and humidity rises?
I ask because I dont know and it seems weird that Ricky would be considered an asset based on his experience with this engine if there isnt anything to tweak.
I thot 99% of the adjustments were suspension, tires etc.
Even though I may not know you, I
care what most of you think!

That's a good question Rod, and the answer comes down to the team and their engine packages. As far as rejetting, sprint cars do the exact same thing as what you would do on a snowmobile. As the corrected altitude and or air density ratio changes (some guys use altitude, some guys use ADR) you adjust your main pills and high speed pressures. Sometimes you dont adjust at all in a race night and sometimes you adjust 3 times a night. It was more common several years ago to see guys changing nozzles, changing headers, changing intake stacks and changing air boxes throughout the night. I would guess the guys are more dialed in on their engines after running the same heads for a couple of years now.
With the Ford I would guess there is still a lot of minor adjustments like what I listed above that need to be made to make the thing drivable all night.
As far as the ford guy that used to be on here all the time, I hope his health is doing ok this week. I dont know how I would feel after having an erection for 36 hours...

And so was everyone else except for the 69K.
|
The fastest two guys on Friday night at the end were the 69K and the 48. Danny was really comming on in the final 10 laps too.
