Here's an idea: Have just one support class. Start on time, get the show on the road and be done at a reasonable time.

My thoughts exactly...........

I believe that they aren't allowed to start a race past something like 11:30 or midnight without paying a fine so technically they were "done on time".  I'm not sure where some of you folks who are complaining about the time live but if it's in the eastern time zone keep in mind that we're an hour behind you in central time.  The 11pm to midnight range is pretty much how long you're going to sit at a lot of the tracks in the upper Midwest.  I've been on the road by 9:30 after weekly shows a few times but we had been getting a lot of rain up here so I can understand more time for track work.  The last time I was at Cedar Lake prior to the Outlaws is was for night one of their Masters.  They had 52 USMTS Modifieds, 36 Late Models and 17 Limited Late Models which meant a bunch of Heats and B Mains.  All they had to do all night was mist the track between races and the racing was two and three wide all night long.  I'm guessing those must run a harder tire compound than the Outlaws because it took on more rubber this past Saturday than I saw a couple weeks prior to that.

Good point. I never thought of that. In PA, 99% of the fans leave after the features as do the teams. It seems like a popular thing in the rest of the country to mingle with the drivers and crews in the pits after the races are over.

That is true in the upper Midwest.  When Cedar Lake has a two day event they've got on site camping and open the concession for breakfast.  There are shuttle buses if anyone wants to tube the Apple River and I'm sure they had a band out there in the Sandbox Arena or under the awning by the backstretch concession one or both nights.  Fans can watch kart races on an small dirt track inside the arena on Saturday afternoon.  I used to stay out there and howl at the moon many times when I was younger.  They had almost all of the campsites full when I got there around 3pm on Saturday.  Cedar Lake isn't going to rush things for a few fans back east watching online that are up past their bedtime.  wink

I think the race ended around 12:30am eastern time which would be 11:30pm central. May have been a little later but with all the racing that went on that night I would say it's fairly reasonable. 3 classes of sprints plus basically 2 outlaws features. If they hadn't had the rain out the night before they probably would have been done sooner since they may have had less time needed to rework the track.

I didn't mind the multiple support classes in this case given the car counts. Here in Ohio I have seen all star races that the tracks know that they will get 40-50+ cars but will have 2-3 support divisions which means not getting out till after midnight or 1am. I don't mind really or my son, but some of my friends that go to the races with me do not attend those races. My wife will typically go but if she sees more than 1 support division then she is out. There goes front gate sales for the backgate. Granted the backgate is a higher price but at some point if tracks aren't careful it could bite them

Three classes is nothing up here.  I'm used to sitting through five or six classes to see the Sprints and weekly Sprints amount to two or three Heats and a Feature.  I know where the east coast Hoser are coming from, I like tuning into some of their All Star races that only have the 410's and nothing else.  They are an hour earlier than us so those one class shows finish up early.

We get that with west coast races as they are two hours behind us.  A 7pm start in California is a 9pm start in Minnesota so if their show lasts until midnight their time it's 2am here.  I fall asleep and miss Features or turn a lot of those off and go to bed before the Feature.
