I shot a few of those races. Ill have to dig out the footage. Didnt care for the way it all came about as the purpose of the series was to eliminate the All Stars after Bert wouldnt sell.

I agree the purpose was to eliminate the AllStars. I personally think we are better of now with both WOO  and AllStars doing well than having one group controling everything.

for some reason, i hate being the one to follow marioskid with a post, just curious about the Jet Jeff Shepard, pretty sure he retired due to injuries, & haven't heard  anything of or about him since. Seems he distanced himself from the sport. Hell of a talent back in those days, though

And Jason Myers?

Yes, I took a photo of Jason Meyers at the Superior, Wisconsin, Gumout race.  I believe it was in 2001.  That's before I switched to digital and all the prints are in storage.

Good question, wonder what happened to Jeff Sheppard? He was really good too.

yes, thanks JDracer. What the hell, if you cant tear it up in a sprintcar, heavy equipment is next best right? Anyway, i met him when he was driving the Wirtgen 5 in Chico 03 or 04, imho, back then it was as good as it gets, that wasn't gumout but rather outlaws, & a bunch of really good drivers had graduated from gumout, Furr, Myers, Pittman, Dollansky, The Jet, more than i can remember & they all did good as outlaws

Was just sitting around thinking about Sprint car racing. Remember the good old days? 2000 gummies were good. Craig Dollansky, Jeff Sheppard, Danny Wood, Daryn Pittman, the late Ron Laney, Mike Goodman(there was another #3 car that year, can't think of who it was...), Kelly Kinser, Who else was there? I can't remember everyone? Or anyone have any web links to any of the old stuff?

That's when the WoO and their support series had alot if cars! Sure miss those times.

My Gumout memory is the time I gave Jerry Richert Jr. a lift up to Superior for a Gumout race.  He introduced me to Banzai Bruns and I introduced myself to Craig Dollansky and had a chat with Ron Laney while slifting on the concrete barrier watched them work the track.  Laney was telling me about the mess that some flooding had done causing tiles to come up back home in Texas.  Just a down home friendly guy.  I ended up interviewing Craig for the Racing Connection a few years later.  That was a great night of racing talk and experiences.  I thought you might like that as a Dollansky fan.  When Craig got the idea for the Princeton National I got an invite to Princeton and spent the afternoon taking photos and had lunch with the Dollansky family and crew.  Talked to Craigs late father Bill and found out that he bought his first Sprint Car from my cousin.  After that experience I was pretty fond of the Gumout series.

Didn't notice that this was an old post until after commenting.  A spammer replied and that put it to the top of the front page.  It was still a great night and a lot of good memories.  Thanks spammer for reminding us of this post.  LOL

Was Bob Bennett the other #3?  This was a great series.  Was Tyler Walker a part of it in 2000?

Wasn't there a driver named Daniel Coggleshell (sp)?

Seems like I remember some talk of him getting medical clearance and wanting to attempt a comeback a few years ago, but he decided against it after hot lapping a car.

It is really interesting to here various posts saying they wish the series was still around.  I can't help wondering how many would be critical of the series if the series still ran a schedule today?  Seems to me the series was referred to as the gumballs.....the minor leagues and everything else in between.  Maybe it can serve as a way to be thankful for what is out there right now.  Is it perfect?  Probably not, but I for one am thankful for each and every sprint series that exists.  Drivers risking their lives, owners footing the bills, track owners taking a chance with the gate and preparation, fans spending their hard earned money, safety personnel providing their service, tow truck drivers keeping the show running, and so on and so on!  .........it's going to be a long offseason in a few weeks!!!

The All Stars won that dispute.  No chance of an Outlaw support series anymore.  The All Stars are doing well, I love following them even though they don't come to where I live.  Nevertheless, there are some good memories from when the Gumout existed.

Sept. 29, 2000 the Gumout series towed all the way up to Superior, WI with a great car cout of 32. Kenny Jacobs won it and some other throwback names that may not have already been mentioned in this thread were Jerrod Hull, Jimmy Carter, Travis Whitney, Blake Feese, Raymond Hensley, John Bridgeford.

It was cool to see a track so far north without any local 410 racing take a chance on such a late season race and have a bunch of California guys show up like Furr, Meyers and Jason Statler.
