Fair enough. I apologize if you felt I was being arrogant.
Knoxville has changed to meet the times. Can you name any other sprint car track that jas a 4 day event that pays $150,000 to win that attracts cars from all over the country and from 2 or 3 other countries?

You are talking about the Nationals, though. I was talking about the weekly show. I never thought there would be a night with 20 410s and 20 360s at Knoxville.
The National Open is a cash cow at the Grove as well.

I understand where you're coming from, but I think the car count has a lot more to do with the lack of racing opportunity in the region than it does over Knoxville being a half mile track. We've lost right at a a dozen weekly drivers over the past three years. That's half a feature field.

Changing the track while the same management is in place does nothing

I give you that because i don't know the management situation at all ike you would. And you are corret....that's the whole key.

Maybe it's time for a new racier Williams Grove. Replace the joint with a 4/10 mile wider layout and move the haulers outside of the track. Looks like plenty of space could be available for the pits by bringing turns three and four in. It appears that the front stretch grandstands would match up quite well with the new turn four, also. That would also mean actually having a turn two. I know this will be a very unpopular suggestion, but the fans and the car owners would sure reap a great benifit.

Been saying that for years. Strung out 1/2 mile tracks are decades outdated and need to go the way of the dinosour. In PA we have way too many of them. You want to instantly save the teams a lot of money and create better racing? Well that's the most obvious, yet overlooked, solution. I don't know about changing 3-4. With the way the bleachers are located, it would make more sense to change 1-2 but you also have the tunnel on that end to consider. This is PA though and a lot of fans still prefer big fast tracks to better racing.

Why not just unload in the infield and park haulers elsewhere? Seen other track do this at least for the big shows. As far as the track goes, seen other tracks get shortened and it didn't turn out so well. It's not the track's fault that engine builders have become deficient. There are plenty of other types of racing on tracks bigger than half miles that don't have engine problems near as much as sprint cars. I think it's time for some engine development geared more towards reliability before they kill off the sport. Put them on 3/8 mile tracks and they will further lighten the engines and you will be back to the same problem.

A simple rule for engines. Rule #101: Engine changes will not be allowed after the cars first race of the night. Engine changes, only after hot laps or time trials.

I'm surprised no 1 has memtioned the problem 1 would have with the turn 1 tunnel if shorten. tear down the bridge & tunnel, enlarge the pits to clear sightlines (maybe outside of 1 & 2?) but keep it @ 1/2 .... JMO
