Okay, but I count three from Pennsylvania. Who am I missing?

Shaffer, Hodnett, Allen, Schuhart, and Zearfoss.

Shaffer, Hodnett, Allen, Schuhart, and Zearfoss.

I get all of them except Hodnett. He's Posse but not from Pennsylvania. He's from Tennessee....the WoO and then Posse. Somehow I was having a brain fart with Shaffer. Probably because I was looking at the youngsters primarily. I knew damn well he was from PA, Zearfoss, too. Like I said, the crux of my post was towards the new blood. Zearfoss, Schuchart and Allen definately fit that category.....Abreu, Larson, Sweet, Macedo, D Scelzi and G Scelzi fit the young category for Californian's in the A Main. And as much as some Posse fans like to steel the thunder form others....it just doesn't happen....not this time.

Shaffer do you consider yourself Posse?

Tim Shaffer:  "No"

Doesn't matter.....This thread isn't about any organization, Posse or otherwise, it's about the state they are from! Shaffer is a Pennsylvanian!!! This is what happens when some Posse fans (not you) feel neglected.....they gotta try and steel the thunder from others and high jack a thread. LOL!

Just this week there was a post informing Pa. fans that the likes of Schchart, Allen, Zearfoss, Marks and maybe a couple others are not Pa. Drivers they Outlaws and Allstars and such so under that criteria how many of those guys really are California drivers.Wink

all eight of those drivers mentioned were born & raised in ca., it just seems that they have to "leave the nest" so to speak to get natl. exposure as well as race the biggest races. tho he didnt make the main sat nite, cory eliason is another notable ca. youngster, as well as dj netto, & i promise before too long, the name michael "buddy" cofoid will be recognized.  im pretty sure all the names mentioned will be back home for trophy cup in october, except maybe sweet. it'll be nice to have all our hotshoes back in the nest. WTG brad, kyle, carson, tim, gio, dom, rico, paul & all the ca. drivers representing in iowa

Like I stated, California right now is producing the largest number of very good young sprint car drivers.

The amount of young talent that has come out of California in the 10 or so years is amazing. We've put out a few good ones from Central PA but nothing even close to California.

And the numbers may not be a fair comparison to the actual talent from both states. I think the kids coming out of California are coming from a wealthier background, so they are getting more opportunity. While there is plenty of wealth in PA, are the young guys from PA getting the same opportunities as the California kids? Just asking. Let's face it, the money one comes from can make all the difference in the world.

Years ago I championed the CA Drivers, that was big when Brad Furr, Jason Myers and TK were Outlaws.  Used to compare them to the Posse and raise a little hell, but at least the Posse have some travellers thes days whereas back then they had Steve Smith only.  It was part of the fun debate that had Posse Cheerleaders going crazy, like I always thought, it has come to fruition, to the point that nobody can argue about.  CA is more stout/better than PA...Nothing new here, move along....

I had the chance to talk to a California guy with good credibility about the racing in Cali.  He said for the most part the tracks out there are garbage compared to the midwest and places like Ohio and PA.  He claimed that lot of times they will water the crap out of it the night before then not touch it the next day for racing.  And they dont even use the sheeps foot.  I personally enjoyed talking to him as much as anything at the Nationals this year.  He had some really good stories and was really down to earth guy!  His NHRA ring was cool too.

California has always had great sprint car driver's , great tracks, and great fans.

Jan Opperman

Jimmy Boyd

Jimmy Sills

Gary Paterson

Leroy Vanconett

Just to name a few

I could go on for ever , and most all have gone out of California and won and won big.

I thought there was very little 410 racing left in California? Those guys HAVE to travel

But this in no way is meant to deny their obvious talent.... just that Posse has other options

That's a good point but either way, California is a talent factory right now and looking at things, there are a few other such as Kofoid who will be making noise on the national stage before much longer.

Many of the ca drivers named have came to race in pa on a weekly basis over the years.  Must be something attractive in pa.  How many ca drivers will finish in the top ten at the national open.  How many pa drivers?  Guess that will show which state is better.  Why is knoxville the measuring stick?  Were there equal number of participants from each state at knoxville?  How many didn't make the a from each state.  Not too many from pa.  Wolfe and dietrich come to mind.   Don't know the answer but who is more successful against the outlaws in their hometown?  Ca or pa.  Past 10 years, 20 years, history?

We've been fortunate to see them around here some the last year and this year, too. One set of drivers at home vs a bunch of travelers rarely proves that much. The All Stars struggle in PA. The Outlaws are the one exception. As for success against the Outlaws......the Outlaws win at a rate of around 2 out of 3 or better about everywhere they have gone the past 40 years. Only in recent years has it gotten better for the home town guys.

Lets throw this out there how many Pa drivers wanna come run the TROPHY Cup and see how they fair here in Calif ...or the PETER MURPHY CLASSIC...... I would venture to say Cali drivers do better back there then the Pa drivers would do out here ,,,,,,,,,,,

IMO Knoxville is a great measuring stick because there is no home track advantage.  If a driver is coming from CA or PA to run the Nationals, chances are that is the only time said driver will get running time on the track.

What I find impressive about the performance from CA drivers this year is there are almost no 1/2 mile tracks there.  Almost very track is a cowboy up bullring.
