If you set up inside you pay fees.

According to WoO the full time drivers have been able to set-up their t-shirt trailers at WoO events for free since 2004. The tweet doesn't say that the non full timers can't set up, it just says it's not free unless you are a full time driver. What is the problem with that for crying out loud? Tony could and probably does sell his stuff out of DS's trailer. At Jackson Nats last year many drivers were doubled up, whatever their reasons.
Seems like there was some kind of kerfluffle over this t-shirt trailer thing when the WoO/Badlands Gold Cup thing fell through a few years ago.
Thanx,

Is that true for the Knoxville Nationals? I don't think the Fairgrounds is WoO domain that particular week. During the Nationals is when Schatz was setting up outside the Fairgrounds every year. (I haven't been at the Nationals the past couple years)

Bull****. These teams are making a large sum of money thru merchandise sales. Tony, thru eldora, does a lot for woo. I don't know what the split is between team and driver ? Tony's case, he gets it all I'm sure. I do have a question. So you can't sell items from your trailer being on grounds, but, can you sell out of your race trailer in the pits ? Or can you reach agreement with the track owner and sell off a table or in there merchandise spot ?

Slightly off topic. I've often wondered what a shirt costs a driver to have made? I'm assuming around $5 each or possibly less depending on the volume they order? I think the shirts are normally good value to the fans priced between $20-$40 depending on the driver/shirt/event in question.
The merch sales would nearly have to be the primary income source for a lot of the drivers with their 40% of what the car makes secondary wouldn't it? Just doing rough math it would have to be very close anyway? Pick a consistant top 5 driver that's not Schatz and you have think they're making at least half their income off merch v's their 40% cut of what the car makes each night.
Could be completely wrong? Just throwing out a few thoughts.

Probably not the wisest idea to upset a guy with enough money and connections to start his own series. The same guy who owns the the track that puts on the second biggest paying event of the year. Remember the good old days when the biggest story involving merchadise was how long Bruton Smith was going to hold Ted's t-shirt truck over money owed?

I do not see any problem supporting the teams that follow your series. Absolutely nothing wrong with this.

How quickly we forget that he’s also the owner of the most dominant force on the tour and has been for at least a decade.

On a sort of off note, didn't he say he wasn't going to run any all star events after his incident with Chad Kemenah last year? That didn't hold true.

F------ Outlaws with there stupidity and lack of good old common sense! For what??????? A half a dozen or so shows a year!!! Does the WRG/WoO have any brains at all?! And too.......Stewart can be an idiot, also, they could set his t-shirt trailer up off premises and probably still out sell the rest. Pissing contests do nothing for the fans in instances like this. They are all a bunch of greedy egotistical asses!

I’m a huge Smoke fan, but I gotta agree with the Outlaws on this one... Why would the Outlaws allow Tony to bring his t-shirt hauler to an Outlaw sanctioned race, when his hauler is selling the competition (ArticCat Series) merchandise from his hauler... Does WalMart allow Target to set up tent in their parking lot??? I’m sure if Tony took his Artic Cat merchandise out and just sold his car shirt the Outlaws would have no problem.... JMO.... Were the Outlaws allowed to bring their merchandise hauler to Bubba Raceway last weekend?

Wrong.......they do it to all "outsiders", yet they sure court them to come fill out their car count. Besides, you don't think the fans are aware of the Arctic Cat connection by now! LOL Plus, how many fans does someone like Smoke put in the stands? Bad comparison......Walmart/Target for cripes sake. Although, if it were a big enough tent, and that tent brought several thousand people to the parking lot, it might be a good thing.

Stewart draws alot of fans when he’s advertised to appear in advance. But how many people really go to an outlaw show expecting him to race if he’s not advertised?
I actually agree with Stewart on this one, he’s a car owner so he shohld be covered under this policy, but other than the bad pr, I don’t think it’ll impact the Outlaws too much.

sennabestever is on the right track here. A lot of these regulars depend on merchandise sales to get up and down the road and make a living for their families. That is why this rule is in place. They need to help these guys survive so they continue to race. They are not picking on Smoke because he owns another series. And yes, the WoO knows that Tony is going to put butts in the seats, and that he owns a car, and a track, and is a huge supportor of the sport. But to their credit they are standing up for what they think is right, rare these days. I see both sides point of view but if you start making exceptions, where does it stop. I love Tony and I also go to a lot of WoO races, so I am not picking sides. I know for a fact that Steve Kinser bought a motorhome off the money he made out of his merchandise trailer, so yes it is a very big deal. We can pick sides and split hairs all day but it is as clear as right and wrong. Like Tony said on Twitter, there is a lot more to the story than people know. Bottom line, support the tracks and support the racers, they all need our help!

This is a clear, well thought out and reasonable post. YOU NEED TO STOP THAT!!!
Seriously though, this is correct. Too many people nowadays get butt-hurt over anything and everything; usually things that have nothing to do with them and have absolutely zero impact on them personally.
The WoO has every right to protect their product. If it happens to interfere slightly with 1 person....OH WELL!!!
I am lucky enough to work at one of the best tracks
anywhere.

I understand and respect your point of view on this. I simply disagree with the overall "power" that the WRG/WoO have been able to establish, and Stewart's childish reaction. No different than how I feel about other business situations similar to this. I think Wolfgang was the first driver to own the rights to his t-shirt sales exclusively. And for a lot of years sold them from his motorhome, or other vendors. I'm not sure how it works today, whether or not drivers are getting a percentage or the entire profit. Regardless, the top guys seem to be doing all right financially. As for the WRG/WoO.....I don't hold that they have the rule in place to simply "help these guys survive......". If that's the thought behind the rule, why the hell have the purses been so stagnant for so damn many years? Wouldn't that have helped a lot of guys get up and down the road? Bottom line is that they aren't really hurting Stewart financially over this, and Stewart needs to put his ego aside and grow up. The only ones who ever suffer through shit like this are the guys who really need the t-shirt and souvenir sales to offset some of their expenses.

Tony's a D-Bag and I could care less to see him race. Nor have all his window licking Napcar fans at the real races.

Pit Shack Guy, I have never been accused of being reasonable before so you need to STOP THAT!
blazer00, I am a little confused when you say it upsets you that the WRG has so much power. It is their business, they should have the power. Just like Tony has all the power with the All Stars, it is his business. I don't know for sure but I doubt the WRG makes anything off of these drivers shirts. They made the rule to support the drivers to make money. Tshirt sales have nothing to do with purse payout. That is another issues for another thread. Drivers sell shirts to supplement their income, period. I highly doubt any of them like the hassle of designing, ordering, shipping, maintaining inventory, find someone to work the trailer, hauling the trailer all over the country. Most probably don't really care about the shirts themselves, they need the income to survive. And yes, if Tony Stewart's trailer is beside a guy like Clyde Knipp, Clyde is not selling shirts. Extreme example I know, but this is the nature of the rule. Relax all, it will buff out!

How is this a "childish outburst? Holy crap, Stewart fields a car for one of the biggest, if not the biggest Outlaw draw. This reason number 500 I wouldn't walk across the street to see a WoO race - sprint car or latemodel, and I sincerly mean that. Somebody called him D-bag above. Without Stewart and his involvement in our sport, who knows if the All Stars would even be in existance right now, the top car on their crap tour would be gone, Eldora would be owned by god knows who, or growing weeds 10 foot high right now.
Good for you Tony. Come race with your All Stars and other non-Outlaw winged 410/360 races like the big race coming in April at Mansfield. Hell, I'll buy a t-shirt or 2 now from you this year just to spite the arrogant WoO. Piss on them - over-hyped racing anyways.

Purses are stagnant because there is a limit to what tracks and customers are willing to pay.
