RYAN BERNAL CONTINUES WINNING WAYS AT PETALUMA
By Lance Jennings

PETALUMA, CA – OCTOBER 7, 2014... After clinching his second USAC Western Classic (WCRS) Sprint Car championship, Ryan Bernal of Hollister won the season finale at Petaluma Speedway. After problems sidelined Shawn Arriaga, Bernal took the lead on the fourth lap and shook free from all challengers to earn his record setting fifth win of the campaign. “The Human Highlight Reel” Geoff Ensign, Frankie Guerrini, “The BT Express” Bradley Terrell, and hard charger Terry Schank Jr. rounded out the top-five drivers.

Driving Mike Phulps’ #56 Mandarin Tri-L Ranch / Core Power ART, Ryan Bernal qualified second out of the twenty racers in the pit area and won the 10-lap Deist Safety Heat Race #2. Starting fifth in the main event, Bernal set a torrid pace after grabbing the lead to claim the series debut at Petaluma. Capping off a successful season, the partnership with Phulps yielded two Woodland Auto Display Fast Time Awards, three heat race victories, one Keizer Wheels / Racing Optics Hard Charger Awards, seven top-10 finishes, and 81 feature laps led.

Sebastopol’s “The Human Highlight Reel” Geoff Ensign stormed to second from tenth in the Petaluma finale. Racing Ted Finkenbinder’s #3F Western Industrial X-Ray Eagle, Ensign was tenth fast in time trials and ran second to Brett Rollag in his heat race. The former champion closed out 2014 ranked eleventh in points with two heat race victories and three top-10 finishes to his credit.

Frankie Guerrini of San Rafael scored third at the checkered flags. Piloting Shawn Thomas’ #27 Thomas Family Racing / Stage 8 Maxim, Guerrini qualified eighth overall and claimed third in his heat race. In his first Western Classic start, the midget regular tied for twenty-fourth in the point standings.

Sebastopol’s “The BT Express” Bradley Terrell charged from ninth to claim fourth at Petaluma Speedway. Driving Scotty Dupont’s #3X American Auctioneering / ALC Machine Maxim, Terrell was ninth quick in time trials and placed second to Terry Schank Jr. in his heat race. “The BT Express” ran twenty-sixth in the point chase.

Terry Schank Jr. of Santa Rosa earned his first Keizer Wheels / Racing Optics “Hard Charger / Best Passing Job” honors by finishing fifth after starting fifteenth. Racing Roger Gleeson’s #1 Joe Hunt Magnetos / King Racing Products Spike, Schank qualified fifteenth overall and won the 10-lap Saldana Racing Products / Pyrotect Racing Cells Heat Race #3. In limited starts, the Wingless Spec Sprint champion placed seventeenth in points with two heat race victories and three top-10 finishes.

Loomis’ Max Adams earned his first Woodland Auto Display Fast Time Award and set a new track record. Piloting the family owned #5X ART Speed Equipment / MotoWear International ART, Adams took third in his heat race and finished ninth in the main event. Max closed out the season ranked fifteenth in points with three top-10 finishes to his credit.

Making a rare non-wing start, Brett Rollag of Rohnert Park won the 10-lap Extreme Mufflers Heat Race #1. Driving the family owned #27X Rollag Painting Maxim, Rollag was thirteenth fast in time trials and placed eighth in the feature after starting thirteenth. Brett ranked thirty-first in the final point standings.
