I seriously doubt that anyone ever did. Idiot is an outdated term for those with an IQ of less than 25. People at that level are now classified as having profound mental disability.
In high school I took an IQ test and was told by the counseler that I was in the Superior classification. That group has an IQ of 120 to 139. Those over 140 are considered at the genius or very superior level.
When I was drafted into the U S Army, I scored in the 99th percentile on the Army Classification Battery of tests, which tested problem solving and other abilities in addition to purely intelligence levels. In other words, I scored in the upper one percent of all of the people that entered the Army during a lengthy period of years.
