Right about now would be a good time for all the big players involved to start some serious discussions about cost containment in sprint car racing.

If this deal drags on as long as some of the experts are predicting there may not be much money to throw at motors and high buck pieces.  Some race teams will likely not come back if it drags out too long and a few tracks could be gone.  It's an unknown right now but I think if it goes on long enough that these mega bucks motors aren't going to be sustainable.  I hope that isn't the case but there isn't any historical precedence since 1918 and the automobile and racing were just getting started back then.

I live about 20 minutes from that track your talking about. I was sitting in my living room today and heard a rumble, jumped up in time to see a sprinter going past my house followed by a quad. What a great sound, last night would have been my first race to attend this year down at I 80. Everyone stay well, and hopefully we can see some racing at some point this summer!!!!

Most teams are probably saving money by not racing. How many weekly racers bring home more than they spend? Doubt it is very many.

Right about now would be a good time for all the big players involved to start some serious discussions about cost containment in sprint car racing.

There are several regional sprint car series that have addressed this issue (some upwards of 5 years) and have been saving their racers thousands of dollars a year just in consumables alone yet still providing their fans with great racing action.

But your post mentions 'big players' specifically.

On that note, there's nothing more I'd like to see than other series to try some of these simple rules adoptions for one weekend.

In the case of our series it's about a 15 minute project that costs essentially $0.00 to make your car rules-compliant.

And I know what the outcome would be. In one weekend they'd see what some of the rest of us have figured out years ago in an attempt to keep sprint car racing more sustainable - all while not sacrificing one iota of quality racing.

I would venture a guess that race teams from coast to coast are facing every scenario imaginable from their businesses or jobs being non-essential to those who are working 70 hours a week to keep up with increased demand.  All are saving money but some might not be making money to save.  I'm sure the circumstances out there include every scenario imaginable.

Here are a couple of examples:

https://sprintcarbandits.com/ and rules are here:  Sprint Car Bandits series rules as of 3/6/20:  CLICK HERE to view/print

The key components in the Sprint Car Bandits the past 4 seasons have not changed going into this season, which are limiting top wing angle to 20 degrees, requiring all teams to run the same pair of rear tires all night long (which we've proven repeatedly that these cars can make it on one pair a night with our rules); and there are some other small items that all pull it together.

Another example closer to Canada-eh is UMSS and their winged division has grown like wildfire with lots more cost savings measures in place:
