Please help me understand the logistics of the Kville Nats. It seems to be a Woo sanctioned event but not Woo format and no points for the series. If this is wrong please correct me and if it is right why would Kville sanction the event and pass money into the Woo with zero to gain, assuming every Woo driver would attend and if one didnt what difference would it make.

Knoxville nationals are show up points only. Everyone gets the same amount of points for showing up

My guess is that Knoxville doesn't pay WoO for the sanction, but rather, WoO probably requested to have it sanctioned under their banner since it's the biggest sprint car race on the planet and they wanted to be associated with it. 

Nope.  Nationals were not sanctioned by WoO not too long ago and they did not try to schedule anything.  It was that way for quite a few years and has just recently become a sanctioned event again.

Personally, I don't care who calls it their race.  If they want to give show up points that don't mean anything, then it makes no difference one way or the other.  I just go and enjoy the show. 

With what the purse is and the prestige to win the nationals does it really matter ? WoO wouldn't be stupid enough to schedule against knoxville. I think the only reason why they do show up points is because there not paying any sanction fee's

The reason the Nationals is "show up points" only is because the event doesn't use the standard World of Outlaws format.  It's the same with the Kings Royal.  And yes, Knoxville DOES pay santioning fees for the Nationals--series officials, scorers, tech officials, (and announcer) work with the track personel to help put on the event.

Thanks Johnny. So Kville basically hires the Woo crew to run the show. But I thought I saw the point spread shuffle at Eldora. Are you are saying every Woo driver, or every driver at the KR got the same points?

Wednesday Thursday and Friday of Kings Royal weekend were WoO points races using regular WoO format.  The Kings Royal itself (Saturday) is show up points only because of the unique format used.  

So did the WOO ever give points for this event?  I'm not sure if I'm remembering this correctly but I remember one nationals I think sometime in the 90s where an outlaw didn't make the A and took a provisional to get in.  From what I remember they said the outlaws each got 2 provisionals a year and whoever it was used it there.  Does anyone else remember this?  Or was it a different race?

I think saying Knoxville "hires WoO to run the show" doesn't really represent what actually happens.  It's very much a collaborative effort among the track, the series, and others to put on the biggest sprint car race in the world. 

As for Knoxville being a full point event, it was in the past.  I belive you're referring to Andy Hillenburg being awarded a provisional in the late 1990's to keep his "Ironman" streak intact.  (And though the series awarded the provisional, Andy never actually started the race. He was credited with 25th for outlaw point purposes only.)

I believe that the Knoxille Speedway partners with WoO for the Nationals mainly for the marketing opportunities that it makes available, not only for the event like NOS but at the team level like Axalta

As soon as Knoxville Raceway got the message across to the WoO that the WoO needed to be a part of the Knoxville Nationals more then the Knoxville Nationals need the WoO proper order was established. Gibson has been around long enough to have seen that transpire but I don't know if he will comment on it. I was more involved during that period and it was definitely interesting to observe. I'm sure most would agree that where that relationship is now is the healthiest it has been the entire history of the Knoxville Nationals and arguably the way it needs to be moving forward.

I dont know if anyone will agree but the night that the AllStars were in Knoxville and Gio won might have been the best race of the year.Mr.Capitani held the 1200# Nationals as He felt the cars were getting too light.The WOO needs Knoxville as it is the biggest race and best paying race .Nice they can work together.We all remember when WOO divided and also NBA and NFL and they all failed.

Me thinks they should make a "regular" WoO show not the standard format - like the Kings Royal format. 

Promote passing and give full points.

     Because it's really not our business, the amount of the sanctioning fee is whatever Knoxville and the WoO worked it out to be. They've obviously figured out what value each entity brings to the table and worked it out from there.
