TKS Motorsports – Righting the Ship

Dallas, TX (July 4, 2019) – Austin McCarl and the TKS Motorsports made the show all three nights of the 41st Annual Jackson Nationals, but were unable to score the finishes they were looking for last weekend at Jackson Motorplex. The Troy and Tammy Renfro-owned team is looking forward to being back at Knoxville Raceway this Saturday night in the Midwest Basement Systems/Casey’s General Stores #2KS.

During the preliminary nights on Thursday and Friday, Troy and Austin both felt like they couldn’t quite get things figured out during qualifying and their heat races. “It just seemed like we couldn’t really get in a good groove early in the night all weekend,” said Troy. “With qualifying being so important in the Outlaws format, it was tough battling back from mediocre lap times.”

Having to run the B-main all three nights provided the team more time on a smaller track than they’re used to running, which gave Austin the opportunity to feel out the car. “I think we learned a lot throughout the weekend,” said McCarl. “Obviously you’re not wanting to run the B-main, but getting those extra laps on the track allowed for us to learn a lot more about our car and take some good notes.”

The weekend ended with the TKS Motorsports team making the show each of the three nights of competition and tallying finishes of 24th, 20th, and 24th respectively. While they were happy to be in the show each night, it left Renfro searching for some answers. “Things just haven’t been going the way we want so far this season,” said Troy. “We aren’t far off, but we need to get a few things figured out here in the next couple of weeks.”

While they’re busy searching for the fix to their current struggles, at least they get back on the track this weekend at Knoxville and have a lot of opportunities to right the ship over the next couple of weeks. “Unfortunately, we hurt a car on our final night in Jackson, which wasn’t the best way to close things out,” said Austin. “I’m just happy we get to be back at Knoxville this Saturday and that we’ll have 3 features in two weeks for the makeup A-main from the last rainout.

The TKS Motorsports team will be taking to the track this Saturday night at Knoxville Raceway, alongside the inaugural Corn Belt Nationals!
