SEXTON/GATLIN RACING HOPES TO REBOUND SATURDAY AT BARONA!

(Lakeside, CA, October 18, 2018) They say there is nothing like home cooking and Sexton/Gatlin Racing is looking for a big heap of it Saturday night when they race in their backyard in the California Lightning Sprint Car Series at the Barona Speedway.  Spectator gates will open at noon and the first race will be at 5:00 P.M.

Two weeks ago, Brent Sexton and his youngest son Grant contested the CLS race at the Ventura Raceway.  Brent, a two-time CLS champion, came into the night third in points and he qualified 10th fastest in the 17-car field when he stopped the timing clocks at 12.190 at the ocean side oval.  Grant, who has led the “Rookie of the Year” standings for nearly the whole season, timed in 13th fastest with a lap of 12.554.

Grant, 14, was the first to battle under race conditions on the night when he finished sixth in the first heat race.  Brent bested that finish by two-spots when he placed fourth in the second heat.

For the main, Brent started on the outside of the fourth row and Grant was on the inside of the seventh pairing.  Uncharacteristically, Brent stayed in the middle of the pack and ended up tenth.  Grant ended up finishing 16th after tipping over on the front straight on lap 13.

Despite the rough outing, Brent remained third in the championship standings and Grant stayed ninth.  In addition, Grant stayed well ahead in the “Rookie of the Year” chase.

Saturday’s race will be the final race of the season for the CLS at Barona.  In the first two races at the San Diego County clay oval, Brent’s best finish was a fourth.  Oldest son Dalton had an eighth and Grant’s best outcome there was a 13th.

For fans wishing to watch Team Sexton/Gatlin Racing in person on Saturday, they can find the Barona Speedway at 1754 Wildcat Road in Lakeside.  The office phone number is (619) 749-8115 and the track website is www.baronaspeedway.com.
