Longtime follower first time poster, so go easy on me. I am thinking of going to this race on September 15th but it is a 3 hour drive one way and I am a little concerned about the car count. Does anyone have any insight as to who will be there? And do you think the heavy-hitters will keep following the series south after the Jerry Richert memorial? I realize that at this point it would be a lot of speculation and a lot can happen between now and then but any opinion would be appreciated. Thanks

I'm hopeful that the double-header weekend with Spencer and Deer Creek Friday and Saturday entices some cars to show up. I think the 360 count will be decent. With non-wings too I'm sure both places will produce good features, regardless of #'s that show up. I'm looking forward to watching both nights.

The MSTS 360's are racing the same night as Spencer @ Rock Rapids (an hour west of Spencer).

Unfortunely, it stinks that fans/some drivers are going to have to choose between the two.

I agree. I know at Deer Creek it should be some action packed racing with multiple lines which will make for an exciting night. I am not that worried about the IRA 410s, I am just hoping they get some of the really competitive cars to keep following the series. It's more the UMSS, which is sanctioning the winged and non-wing 360 portion of the event. Although I have heard their non-wing numbers have been good this year, and should be good racing with the higher banks at the Creek. The main reason I posted in the first place was because I was a little shell shocked this past weekend by the car count for Jackson's 360 nationals, although the 3rd night of racing was really good despite the lower numbers. No matter who shows up, a night at the track is always a good night for me.

hope tonight has a better turnout by the IRA guys than last night at clay county.  Count it! only 4 ira guys made the tow over, which is pitiful.  They should be thankful for the non IRA guys who showed up.   Would be nice to see the series points leader show up tonight. Not mad just disappointed.

Most stayed away because it was a non points show.

If it wasn't for financially? supplemented travelers showing up, there would have been a few shows with real poor car counts.

IRA is on its last leg as a self sufficient series. Majority of the races outside Wilmot, Plymouth and a few others require a presence from outsiders in order to even get into the mid 20 car counts. A few teams have already folded over the last 3-5 years, with more on the horizon. To make matters worse, there really is no one moving into the series either. It was either dumb luck or shear genious they jumped on the wingless series, as I throughly believe they will continue to see 35-40+ per show, where in my opinion, the 410 winged cars will continue to see 5-6 regulars in the next 3-5 years, with the average car counts between 16-20 if they can schedule to where enough outsiders show up.... or more joint shows with other series.

The IRA has been a strong regional series for many years.  Not sure if you paid any attention to them prior to this year, but their car counts, nightly purses, points payouts, and driver benefits packages are exceptional for a regional series.  Not to mention the guy calling the shots for the IRA has won promoter of the year multiple times, and has been featured in sprintcar & midget magazine.  I think you may either be terribly misinformed, or did not have the time to dig up any real data on this subject.  IRA is alive and well.  A couple events far outside their "home" range are absolutely not a good representation of what that series is and does on a regular basis.  Check out car counts at Francis Creek, Beaver Dam, Angel Park, Wilmot, Plymouth, Fairbury, Dodge County, Cedar Lake, Seymour.  They're doing fine man.

It may have come off too harsh. Nothing wrong with what they are doing as an organization, its just a sign of the times almost everywhere in 410 racing. Definately have paid attention to them for the better part of a decade, and I am just saying, each year they are becoming more dependant on outsiders to fill the field. Alot of the old regulars run here and there, some have left or are in the process of leaving, some to go wingless.... and some just got out of racing. I am talking in 5 years, it wont be any better. Who moved up this year? i think the 10 car for 3/4 of a season. They are retiring, quitting or moving to wingless faster than new drivers coming in to replace them. Alot of the guys in that series are getting older as well, the Spitzs, Utechs, Meyers and guys that have decades under their belts. I stand by my prediction that in 5 years, it will be a struggle to fill a full field of 410'S... and not just in the IRA. I'll admit.... for whats out there now, I wont spend the ticket prices they are charging, more than 2-3 times a year.

Car counts are way down without “ travelers” being counted. Look at the names on the lists who show up. IRA regulars are way down. I love Dodge but 2 years ago they had 19 cars. If you think that is okay, good for you. Wilmot, Plymouth and Beaver Dam have good counts without counting supplemented travelers.  Elsewhere, not so much. I’ll stick with the wingLESS series. Good racing and FULL fields. JMO

Blackhurst, McMullen, Custer, Matuszewski are all new series regulars in 2018, with one of those being the current point leader.  Thiel, Schultz, Schmidt and Borland are all drivers with many years ahead of them.  I agree that car counts are down across the country, but if you're singling out the IRA, I personally feel that's not the group with the biggest issue.

That's an awesome site with good, current data.  Thanks for sharing that.  Kind of supports the point I was trying to make.  IRA is in a better place than other series are.

As long as they get the travelers they have been getting because they aren’t cutting it without them. The stats show that as well. I’m thinking they are going to lose a couple drivers next year as well so I hope they have guys lined up to take their place. JMO
