LONG DAY OF RACING NETS BRODY ROA A 1ST AND 3RD PLACE FINISH - SANTA MARIA THIS SATURDAY!

(Cypress, CA, July 2, 2018) Brody Roa completed a long day of racing when he crossed the finish line third in the USAC/CRA main event on June 23rd at Perris Auto Speedway.  The third-place outing came just hours after winning the So Cal Oval Karters KT100 main event at the SoCal Fair Motorcycle Speedway.  This Saturday Roa will be competing at the Santa Maria Raceway.

Roa’s day got off to a start when he and wife Tailor arrived for the kart race at the track in the shadow of Perris Auto Speedway.  Contesting the Yamaha of America KT 100 portion of the So Cal Oval Karters show in a kart owned by longtime friend Matt Jones, Roa had a near perfect day winning his first heat, taking second in his second heat and winning the main event.

For Tailor, who was competing in the Calsol Incorporated Senior Clones, things did not go quite as well.  In her second heat race, she was clobbered by another kart knocking her out of competition for the day.

As soon as the kart main was over, Roa raced across the parking lot and into the pits of the famous Riverside County half-mile clay oval where the BR Performance team had the pretty #91R ready for the night of sprint car action.  Unfortunately, the team was going to get a little more action than they hoped for and had to work extra hard.

Things started out with Roa timing in seventh in the 24-car field with a lap of 16.887.  However, things would soon unravel for the 27-year-old.  In his heat race, he started on the outside of the third row, was in the lead by the end of the fifth lap and immediately pulled away from the pack.  Suddenly and unexpectedly his car coasted to a halt in turn three.  The car got a big drive off the left rear exiting turn two and got into the back straightaway wall.  The blow flattened the left rear tire and damaged the wheel.  It also left him unqualified for the A-main and forced him to contest the B-main.

The 12-lap B-main was a cakewalk as Roa led the entire way and earned his ticket to the A-main.  However, his crew was about to be put to the test.  As he took the checkered flag for the B-main, unseen damage from the heat race crash reared its ugly head.  The right rear birdcage bearing exploded and destroyed the rear axle.  With limited time, the team had to replace the rear end and they did so and presented the car in staging just in time to avoid a penalty.

Due to his seventh-place qualifying time, Roa had to start on the inside of the third row, which is farther back than he usually starts.  The veteran racer methodically moved forward and was in fourth on the eighth lap and was third two circuits later. On the 13th lap, he was up to challenge the leaders.

Roa momentarily slipped back to fourth for a few go-rounds on lap 17.  He retook third just before the end of lap 20 and was reeling in the top two when the checkered flag ended the race.  He took home a hard-fought third-place finish on a night when the crew performed flawlessly.

“It was a good end to a trying night,” Roa said when interviewed over the track public address system after the race.  “Driver messed up big time in the heat race and made a lot of work for these guys (his crew).  I want to apologize to them as we have a lot of torn up parts in the trailer right now.  I wish it was a 40-lapper because we were running those guys down at the end.”

This Saturday, Roa heads to the Santa Maria Speedway for the track’s first of two USAC/CRA races in 2018.  Last year in USAC/CRA competition at Santa Maria, Roa scored a win and was robbed of another victory by lapped traffic while leading with one lap to go.  Going into the race on Saturday, he is third in the championship standings, seven points out of second and 29-points out of the lead.

For fans wishing to attend Saturday’s race, spectator gates will open at 4:00 P.M. and the first race will be at 5:30.  The Santa Maria Raceway is located at 1900 Hutton Road in Nipomo (93444).  The track website is at the following link and the phone number is (310) 493-4900.  https://santamariaraceway.com/

Brody Roa t-shirts and caps are available from the team’s website at the following link http://www.brodyroa.com/.  The cost is $20.00 plus shipping.  You can see the new shirt design below.  The shirts will also be available in the pits Saturday at Santa Maria.

Roa is still looking for rides in the USAC National and West Coast Series’ when his USAC/CRA schedule (which is at the end of this release) permits.  Car owners from those series interested in hiring Roa can call him at 714-932-7994.
