AFTER TWO RAINOUTS LIGHTNING SPRINTS OPEN SEASON AT VENTURA!

(Torrance, CA, April 8, 2018) Finally, after two previous rainouts, the California Lightning Sprint Car Series will kick off its historic 25th anniversary season this Saturday night, April 14th, at the Ventura Raceway.  It will likewise be the season opener for the track as it lost its first three shows due to rain.  Joining the CLS on the ocean side oval will be the Dwarf Cars, Senior Sprints, IMCA Modifieds, Hobby Stocks and the Focus Midgets.  Spectator gates will open at 3:00 P.M. and racing will start at 5:30.

The plethora of rain on Saturday nights in March forced cancellation of the CLS scheduled races at the Bakersfield Speedway on March 17th and March 24th at Ventura.  That prompted five CLS drivers to make the 500-mile journey to the Placerville Speedway for last Saturday’s BCRA season opener.  CLS teenage sensation Aiden Lange of Lakewood won his first ever Lightning Sprint  main event at the Northern California track.  Lakeside’s Brent Sexton, a two time CLS Champion, came home second.  Sexton’s teenage sons, Grant and Dalton, who will be among those fighting for the CLS “Rookie of the Year” award in 2018, finished 13th and 17th respectively.  Five-time CLS Champion Bobby Michnowicz of Lomita blew up in hot laps.

Last season the CLS had seven races scheduled at Ventura.  Like this year, the first one fell victim to rain.  In the ensuing six races, Michnowicz led the way with three wins.  Madera’s Charlie Caraccilo, A.J. Bender of San Diego and Ventura’s Bruce Douglass each scored a win each at the “Commotion by the Ocean” in 2017.

After Saturday’s race at Ventura the CLS stars will have little time to rest on their laurels as they will be at Bakersfield on April 21st before returning to Ventura on May 5th.

The Ventura Raceway is located at 10 West Harbor Boulevard in Ventura (93001).  Phone (805) 648-RACE.  Website http://venturaraceway.com/
