BRODY ROA CLOSES IN ON USAC/CRA POINT LEAD GOING INTO SANTA MARIA THIS SATURDAY!

(Buena Park, CA, June 28, 2017) In a USAC/CRA main event that seemed to be headed in the wrong direction last Saturday night for Garden Grove, California racer Brody Roa, he and his team turned things around and came from the back of the pack to finish seventh. The finish allowed him to go from 42-points out of first place to a mere 15-points behind heading into the series next race this Saturday night, July 1st, at the Santa Maria Raceway.

In front of another large, enthusiastic Perris Auto Speedway crowd, the popular USAC/CRA Series pulled its highest car count of the year when 27 teams signed into the pits. Things started off well for Roa when he qualified third fastest amongst the 27 entries with a lap of 16.662 on the famous Riverside County half-mile clay oval.

Being the fastest qualifier in his 10-lap heat race meant that Roa had to start on the outside of the “fast row” (row three). He spent little time there and by the third circuit he had advanced to third place. He stayed there for the duration and punched his ticket into the 30-lap main event.

Roa was the fastest qualifier to transfer straight from his heat to the 30-lap main event and that once again meant he would start outside the third row. At the initial Kevin Winters’ green flag, he advanced forward to fifth before dropping a couple of spots back to seventh. Not to be deterred, he clawed his way up to sixth and was battling for fifth when near disaster struck. Heading into turn one on the ninth lap Roa and the fifth-place car made contact going into the corner. They slid up the embankment with the other car backed into the wall and Roa’s #91R stacked on top of him.

Fortunately, there were no injuries, but as the cars were locked together, officials threw the red flag so they could pull them apart. A quick assessment showed that Roa could continue in the main, but the car had sustained some front-end damage and he would have to restart at the back of the pack.

Once the race resumed, Roa quickly disposed of three cars while driving his bent racecar. Three laps into the restart his fortunes turned for the better. A red flag was necessitated when the point leader and another car tangled coming off turn four. The #91R team did not hesitate to pull the car to the work area when officials allowed. Led by Brett Roa and Zac Bozanich, they replaced the front end in mere minutes. Once again, the talented racer had to go to the back for the restart.

With more than half the race to go, Roa sliced his way through the field. When the 30-lap race ended, he was still heading forward and he took a hard-earned seventh place finish. It was his first finish outside of the top-five in USAC/CRA competition in 2017, but it was one of his most impressive finishes after restarting at the back two times. And, the work by the team in the work area and the driver on the track, brought them 27-points closer to the top of the points heap.

In its quest for the 2017 championship, the team is ready to go when the series heads to the Santa Maria Raceway for the first of two times this Saturday night, July 1st.
