Really hoping this is not true but heard a rumor at tulare that long time WOO anouncer johnny gibson may also be going to the all stars. This would be a tough pill for WOO to swallow as I believe he is nearly as important to a racenight as the teams

So, I will start by saying this is a complete keyboard commander comment.  I have never met Johnny, nor have I ever talked with him in person.

However, reading Johnny's comments on this message board and by following him on twitter, it seems that he absolutely loves his job, loves the travel, and loves that he see's all of the racing that he see's.   It is amazing that a man that works as many races as he does will still go be a race fan at other events.   I am sure that he will see as many races as a fan as some of us will see.    With that said, I don't see him going to a regional series like the All Stars.

I just have to say.....and this is nothing personal against this announcer person.....but...

If the person you are talking about is the person who narrarates the races as they unfold.....the loudmouth, obnoxious sounding announcer who always uses higher volume and over exaggeration in an effort to make the racing more exciting to the fans.....I hope that this person stays with the Outlaws. I mean, I have had enough of him, and that is just watching the race highlight videos on Youtube!  I have to turn the sound off....

I am sorry if I offend anyone, I don't mean to be offensive.....but this is my honest opinion of this person's style, which I find annoying. Probably one of the nicest people you would ever meet I am sure...just not my kind of announcer...

I'm guessing the person heard the crew talking was about Donny (Grabey) and thought he heard Johnny.

Way to throw somebody under the bus. If he did truly tell you this do you think his expectation was that you were gonna run to Hoseheads and post it and cite him as the source? Nice

I think the only job John would leave the Outlaws for is to be the next Penquins TV Announcer, with Mike Lange doing the radio that would be a nice combo....

We have heard the same around the speed shop the past few days. Who would have expected Don to leave the Outlaws after so many years? Would be surprised if Johnny also jumps ship. Money talks in the business.

Johnny....

You have an open invitation to come do an OCRS show on an off night. For no other reason than for us to have a "guest announcer" for a night.Im fairly certain we could get you in and have a free cheeseburger and a beer.

Your red carpet to the front gates awaits your presence wink

gee it is awful nice of you to offer to put someone to work on their day off for the price of a race track burger and beer.

maybe i could get you to work for me on your day off for a little food and drink. wink

ok now that i have put up the sarcastic smart ass comment let me clarify that all i am saying is it might be nice to offer him an open invitation to visit your track as a guest of the management with no strings attached. being the race fan that he is i am sure he would like that. i would guess he would also enjoy a supply of those bugers and beer while he was there.

to indy and beyond!!

I wouldn't mind if he did go ... That A-Main intro is like nails on a chalk board. It is just me, or does everything he say sound like it was pre-recorded or at least well rehearsed?

Some of these guys sould like they are with the circus or an auctioneer and everything they say is canned, just give me someone that talks normal and clearly ... this isn't the WWE.

Johnny's commentating and intro for the A-Main to me makes listening to Dirt-Vision exciting.  Furthermore, I feel he is clearly the best in the business and by a lot.  Being a free country,  I can appreciate a dislike of certain announcers(however I'd be no better) and could easily name one at a very famous track, but will not.  I know I'm far from alone on said dislike of that person's annoucing and voice sounds, however they do give that track a certain aura before showtime is about to begin.

ractnirps-I've gotta disagree with you on Johnny.  Some of the advertisements are clearly pre-recorded and I see no issue with that, but as far as anyting else, the guy does this profession almost year-round and lives for the sport as much as anyone involved.  Because of sheer repetition, he naturally spews the driver names/sponsors/car number and owners/home towns etc, can't fault a guy for being that good at what he does that he sounds like a recording, IMO.

Last year at one of the fan forums at Knoxville, Clauson and Bacon went on and on about how in 410 winged racing, the events just seem bigger. There is more excitement, etc...

Gibson is huge part of making every Outlaw race seem like an event. That and he's not fake. He truly loves sprint car racing and is one of the most knowldgable people about the sport.
