I can't believe the B.S. that happened this last weekend.

I flew from Sioux City, Iowa spending $570 on an airline ticket. Spent $120 on a rental car and $360 on a hotel room. This is the 5th year I have attended Devil's Bowl for the Sprint race and I will guarantee I will not be back. After attending Cocopah Speedway in Yuma and sitting thru a drizzle delay, after hot laps, at being assured the show will go on I know where I will spend my money in the future.

The cars and fans where there and you cancel, why not wait until it actually rains. I wonder if Lou Kennedy, from Winnipeg, Manitiba will be back Russ Hall from Des Monies, Iowa will he be back?, I'm betting they will not. I talked with some people in the motel shortly after you canceled your race and we were all shocked. Why even schedule any shows when it might not be 80 degrees and sunny at showtime.

My Sprint trip next year will be to Yuma and then to Pennslyvania. Thoses places take care of their car owners, drivers and fans. Devil's Bowl showed me they could not care less about any of the above. Waht a joke and good luck in the future, because I really think troubled times are in the tracks future unless something changes.

The only good thing that happend was I got to see Y & T in concert at Tree's in downtown Dallas.

Luna's Ford engine style that won 2 WoO titles and 3
Kings Royals before a weight rule against the best EVER
in their prime and now DOMINATES super dirt late model
racing is no longer allowed/wanted in a WoO sprint
car.... Was Luna a miracle worker?

I'm very sorry you had this experience.    Last year I went to Knoxville for the first time to see the 360 Nationals.   On that Saturday morning a big t-storm rolled through the Des Moines and Knoxville area dumping over an inch of rain on the track.   We went to Knoxville anyway because we still wanted to tour the Hall of Fame.    The HoF people assured us they would race that night despite the track looking like a swamp.   And race they did!   It was a great experience.    That proved to me that the Knoxville people are top notch and first class.   The people that run Devils Bowl obviously are not.....

I don't blame you for not coming back.   I doubt many of those drivers and fans will be back again.    I live 30 minutes from Devils Bowl, and I don't know if I'll go back either.    Had plenty of time to mow my lawn Saturday though, and never would have had to deal with wet grass.

Wheatland got one in a few years ago...temps in the 40's...rained a bunch.  Hot laps at 9:00 and got out of there about 2:00am.  At least they didn't play CHICKEN BS.  And now DB schedules against Wichita.  And this is where the WOO began...SAD.

Lanny is not the sharpest knife in the drawer.  Didn't he once reveive the Promotor of the year award?

While it may not be a popular decision, Lanny understands his track.    Lanny understands that he has to have the casual fans come to Devil's Bowl in order to break even.   He understands that an overcast night with cool temps is going to keep all of the casual fans away.   In his mind, the better business decision was to reschedule the race.

Did he upset the die hard fans that spent a lot of money traveling in to watch the races?  Yes he did.   However, for every die hard fan that spent a lot of money traveling to the races, there will be two more casual fans  to replace them when the weather is good.

I am not sure I would have done the same thing that Lanny did this weekend.   I am also sure that Lanny has done a lot to push drivers away from his track.   However, the man has been in business for a long time and understands the economics of his track.   One of the constant complaints on this board is promoters who don't run their track like a business.   Lanny deffinitely runs his track like a business.

A long long time ago was the last time I spent a dime on anything Lanny Edwards has a hand in. Including the Chili Bowl.

My point is a decsion to pull the plug could have been done later, after the rain. The weather Saturday night was pretty decent. He just burned alot of people who will not be back.

IMHO this was a move where Lanny would either be a hero or a zero.  It came out zero.  Those of you that know those pits, know it only takes a light sprinkle and you’re pulling haulers out with a bulldozer.  If Devil’s Bowl had kept it going and it rained, all of the crews would be on here telling them how bad a move that was.  Because it didn’t rain, it was a bad call.

As far as making that area where it would hold haulers in the rain?  I imagine that would be super expensive.  The racing economy of today does not allow that type of expenditure. Yeah maybe he could take some of the bucks he makes off the Chili Bowl and do it, but that’s another subject.

We all take our chances when it comes to mother nature.   I have driven to Little Rock only to be rained out.  It’s racing!

you don't have to pave the pits, just a good base, or recycled asphalt. Low cost, that fixes the pit excuse, but that takes away an easy out for DBS.  He will call a show at the drop of a hat,,,,,,and he'll drop the hat..

The ASCS is a complete joke. If every promoter cancled events because of threating "whatever" arose, we would all be standing at the ticket booth with a paper cup in our hand. Racers spend alot of money and time preparing for events, and get trated like circus clowns. Don't advertise your event as "The Spring Nationals" and treat it as non chalant as you did.10k to win the Chili Bowl, what a joke. Don't even come on this board and defened Edwards. I will never attend any event where his name is attached to it.

You can't blame the ASCS on this. When a promotor declares a rainout, the ASCS (or any other series) will ask the promotor "what do you want to do", meaning reschedule or cancel.

I do put the blame on ASCS and DBS both. When they wanted to reschedule for the 29th, ASCS should have said no, make it the 28th. But they scheduled on top of the biggest NCRA 360 event of the year.

In the business world that is called Competition.  ASCS has their teams running for National and Regional points locked into racing this show.  Let the better show win!  I as a hugh race fan hope they both draw a good car count and crowd.

I can't think if many business that will stay in business too long when you put those kinds of stipulations of the buyer of your product. Devils Bowl isn't a Friday only track, so why would they re-schedule to a single night that they normally don't run?

To me it's just the whole idea of another sanctioning body (NCRA) having a show scheduled, and DBS & ASCS going ahead with the re-schedule of their "rain  out" program on that same day. They very easily could have made it for friday night, after all they scheduled the first night on friday. I just think it's another way to put your thumb on those 15-20 drivers going for the national and regional championships. It's just chicken of them, in my opinion.

You do realize that it isn't an ASCS only show at Devils Bowl, don't you? It's about 400 miles from Devils Bowl to 81 Speedway, I think both track will do just fine with their car counts, but based on the shows I have seen at 81 Speedway, the $500 to start there won't even pay the tire bill.

Well at DBS you probably won't have to worry about a tire bill, the rain out on the east coast will probably get the show called.
