Reminder to everyone that the 305 sprint cars are racing in Boone, IA this Saturday and next Saturday. Thats June 29th and July 6th. Midwest 305 Sprint Car Rules (which are the same as Knoxville's Rules) and using the Knoxville Pay Out.

Neither night conflicts with Knoxvilles Schedule and with a good showing we could get more races next year. Please come help support our class and show Boone some good open wheel racing.

Only 6 cars of the 14 that "committed" to run this race showed up. Why? I know one of the drivers has lost an engine this year, and may be the case with some others Im not sure. But that still leaves 10-12 that could have been there. This was very disappointing because we had the chance to introduce sprint car racing to a lot of new fans and hopefully make some new fans. There was a lot of interest from the kids in the pits after the races as most of them had never seen a sprint car before. It was just too bad that we only had 5 cars in the "feature" to try and put on a show. I guess I don't understand why someone who owns a 305 car in the area wouldn't want to come up and race at a new track that is small and well suited for the 305's. A lot of the 305 drivers are relatively inexperienced and just need to turn laps, where better to do that than a small lower speed track like Boone? We have an opportunity to race there again this coming weekend, but only if we can guarantee 10+ cars. I hope that we can make this happen as it was a fun track, and would be a lot more fun with 20 cars on the little paperclip. Also they are giving FREE admission to ALL spectators in the stands this coming weekend as a way to make up for the poor sprint car count this past Saturday. So load up your cars and come to Boone this weekend, we only get so many chances a year to race, don't you want to take advantage of all of them?

Maybe I made a mistake when I looked up the Knoxville 305 purse. The one I saw showed $400 to win and $60 to start. We used to have an auctioneer who when he was opening the bidding and had to back down to $ 1 would say WOW! $60? WOW! Double WOW! Triple WOW!

We could have gotten a bigger purse if we would have been able to guaranty a car count. We can't do that because even the people who say they are coming don't show up. Its sad that people will pull the guts out of their motor at Knoxville but not support the same class on a track better suited for 305s.

Doesn't matter anymore now, Boone will never have us back after that showing. It was a lot of hard work for nothing.

Boone Speedway is not allowing the Sprint Cars to return due to poor car count.

NO RACES AT BOONE ON JULY 6TH.

I was surprised when they got the chance to race at Boone which should have been the perfect track for them and then not get enough cars to put on a good show. They would have drawn much more attention than being a filler class at Knoxville.Bob Lawton is a smart business man and promoter and they probably wont get a second chance.I have gotten fair dates for club type racing with better[5X] the weekly purses and guaranteed number of cars and been let down and had to cut purse.Knoxville is not called the Sprint Car Capitol of the World for nothing and the 305 class is doing well.I commend Bobs efforts but sometimes racers would rather spend money rather than actually break even.Boone and Marshaltown have been the home to Dwarf Cars and they put on a great show for a small purse.Fair races are well attended and if only 305 sprints are there with a support class they look really fast but at Knoxville the track is too long.

You are right. Sounds like the perfect place for 305's. I own a 305. Don' t expect to see my car at a race that pays $60 to start. Don't even ask. On second thought, if you are paying all our expenses(gas, room, entry fees, fuel) , and our schedule allows, we can talk.

In this case the 305's are the support class. They are coming into a track with its existing classes, none of those guys as well as the weekly fans are there to support sprint cars in this case. I'm not trying to start a pissing match, I love all dirt racing I don't care what it is. But being a resident of Boone and talking to others about sprints coming in no one really cared just because of the fact its not a sprint car area. I would love to see them here more, but I honestly don't care if they do or don't, the racing is great more times than not and quite frankly that's what I care about
when the green flag drops, the bullshit stops!

Not only did the owners let Boone down they let there own association down by saying they would be there and then not show up. Should of showed just to support the 305"s so they would get asked back. But they screwed that up, I'm sure Lawton won't ask them back now. When I was a young man they had spring car races at Boone ever so often and they were the same 410's they run at Knoxville and put on a hell of a good show. Back then they called Boone the Fastest 1/4 mile in Iowa. Apparently it grew a little and its called a 3/8 now. Back in the days when the VFW ran Jackson, Mn they run 317 cubic inch engines on there 1/2 mile track and put on a really good show. Don't know what else to say but disappointed in the car count, and the guys that supposedly want to race 305"s!!

I totally understand the owners concerns about the size of the purse offered. But, promoters need to know they can get a decent field of cars and that they can put on a good show at their track. Also need to know the fans like the class & be willing to pay a little more for a ticket when the 305's are there and that they may draw some new fans to the track. THEN they might be willing to pay a bigger purse because they know it's worth it. Having 14 teams say they will be there and only 5 show up isn't going to do it. Bloomfield promoter wanted to run 305's the nights that Knoxville did not and got no support from the race teams. They have now screwed themselves out of 2 possible racetracks to run some specials for their class. And with Knoxville knowing the 305 teams will not race anywhere else they have NO reason to raise the 305 purse. If you think a promoter is going to offer a$1000 to win 305 race the first time they are scheduled at their track you are going to be dissapointed . Especially since there are what, 3 different sets of rules for the class in Iowa? That limits car counts based on what tracks/organizations rules you are going to use. Amazed that 410's and 360's can have basicly 1 standard set of rules nation wide but the 305's can't even have just 1 set of rules in Iowa!!
