Alger Washington -- Due to a contractual conflict the Dirt Cup rain date scheduled for August 30th has been cancelled. Skagit Speedway promoter Steve Beitler gave this explanation: “When it became obvious we would not get to race the final night of Dirt Cup I looked for the best date for the fans and the teams that were at Dirt Cup. It only made sense to put it on Thursday before the WoO event, all the fans and teams that were at Dirt Cup would most likely be returning that weekend. I believed this would be the least expensive alternative.”

“I have been informed by World Racing Group that “Any 410 sprint car practices or races 4 days prior to a WoO event are strictly prohibited”. I have been involved with the WoO for over 23 years and have never heard of this rule, but it is in the contract. I have had several phone conversations as well as in person discussions with the WRG management to resolve this matter, most recently at the Knoxville Nationals. WRG management stated that it is important that all WoO promoters are treated fairly and consistently with each other and this decision is fair and consistent with the set guidelines in the WoO sanctioning agreement.”

“The other concern from WRG management was that we were scheduled on the Grays Harbor Raceways rain date for their WoO event, I didn’t think that was a factor for the GHR promotions group since they scheduled on our rain date at Willamette Speedway.”

“There are not any other weekend dates that allow the fans and race teams to return this year; we have run out of options so the decision to cancel was inevitable.”

A full refund will be issued to all persons that have purchased a Saturday night Dirt Cup ticket.

Wow. So then how did Schatz, Saldana and Madsen run the Cappy Classic at Knoxville on Sunday before the WoO sanctioned Knoxville Nationals started on Wensday ?? If the WRG was worried about being consistent they would have forbidden that too!

um ... can someone explain the logic in WRG's rule? why should/would they care what a track does 4 days prior to a WoO show? And, how did Knoxville get away with their Sunday night race before the Nationals? Sounds pretty inconsistent to me too.

i can see the logic behind not wanting them to run a 410 show on the Grays Harbor WoO rain date, that makes total sense. but the cappy classic @ knoxville seems like that should have been forbidden according to "the rule". but maybe it was allowed because it wasnt competing with the WoO in anyway?

and they the Willamette Speedway race in on the 3rd not the 2nd which would be the rain date for skagit, so that statement is false

Once again I call bullshit....yes it may be some bullshit contract, but my question is why can't they run Sunday? To kme another out so that a promoter can profit of the guys that put on the show... Like the last few post how can Knoxville get away with it but not skagit....sounds like the sides deal all over....my opinon fuck the WRG...

There's always a lot of flack directed at Skagit, and most is well deserved. But WRG should have put the kibosh on this deal shortly after it was announced at DC Friday night.

So Steve missed a bit of fine print while trying to salvage something on the biggest night of Skagit's year. I can't imagine WRG didn't get word of the plans until just recently. Why are we only now hearing about it? This announcement should have come out late June, early July.

Thats why I feel that even if Steve missed something in a contract, it happens to everyone, its unfortunate that he missed something this big. But moreso: The fact that WRG didn't say anything in response until now/recently is where I lie some fault.

Lincoln ran 410's on Saturday May 5th than had the Outlaws on Wednesday May 9th. Rain pushed the Outlaws to the 10th, but why wasn't there a problem with this? WRG sucks. Chances are, people attending the Dirt Cup rain date already paid for their tickets in June, so it's not as if fans will have to choose between spending their money at Dirt Cup or the Outlaws.

sounds as though the rule may have been waived in the lincoln/knoxville situation because it wasnt actually competing with the WoO or the track the WoO was racing at?

I believe there have been several occasions that promoters have had "Outlaw Tune Up" races a few days and maybe even the day before the actual World of Outlaws sanctioned event. Does anyone remember any of these types of shows? Also, didn't Lincoln speedway have a show this year just a few days before there WoO show?

way too many politics in racing i say. hell, look at theis board from time to time!

the woo-zers have way too much "controlling interest" over the local shows, that is sad. after all, we all know that they make their own set of rules to suit their own needs. take for instance the mini this year at chico, the "threat of rain" cancelled the show. it didn't rain until after midnight there.

they take over when they ride into town. imo there is life after death, the woo-zers are not the only game in town boyz and girlz

Ascot was the greatest of all time..

West Capital wasn't half bad either..

Life is good...

It's Washington State. It most likeley will rain out on that date anyways. I think TK and Allard were the only California guys who planned on going way back up there. The rest would have scrached from their starting positions.

So run the show without WoO Sanctioning. Make those outlaw drivers sit just miles away from the

track knowing they can't compete due to a pointless rule. Very surprised they were allowed to run the

Cappy Classic since it was a points race. Not to mention, a points race with a different format. Talk

about stupid.

If I remember right TK and Allard were the only 2 Cali drivers to come up for the original dates anyways.

My guess on the Cappy Classic is the WOO needs Knoxville worse than Knoxville needs the WOO so Knoxville dictates the "rules". Seems like I remember the WOO getting crossways with Knoxville and the Nationals was not a WOO sanctioned race. WOO had to beg to have their name associated with the Nats. Remember in this business money talks and Knoxville has the money and does the talking.

The Dirt Cup isn't an outlaw show, its just a stand alone 410 race. The Outlaw guys wouldn't be allowed to run it anyways because he din race the qualifying nights back in June.

DC had a few travellers.

Kaeding (CA), Allard (CA), Stewart (Car from CA?), Crockett (Car from CA, even though Medford might as well be in California), Rilat (Car from Alberta?), Croft (CA), Dupperon (Alberta), Stidham (CA) and some from the forbidden land south of Seattle, north of Portland.

Yea, years past have had a lot more CA contingent, but at least there were some. Isn't that the whole point of "big shows" is to see the out-of-towners? Seems that's our one time to really see them, considering WoO and thier BS doesn't bring many CA guys north.

Also, there was plenty of debate about letting anyone not running the Thurs/Fri DC nights tagging the back of the C. It would have been interesting to seen how that could have played out. Seeing as how Skagit let someone do it last year.

You're right I stand corrected.

I really don't see how racing the night before the WoO dates would hurt them at all. If anything some of the cars that wouldn't have normally come over to run with the WoO may have chosen to stick around after DC and run both.

I was planning on going to see both shows but now I probably won't go at all.
