$15 Adults, $30 Pits
IRA Members paid $25 Pits as they usually do. Our locals had to cough up the extra $5 for tonight.
You guys squawking about tickets prices obviously have no clue what it's like to promote a race track. The show was a $5K loss on the night despite the terrific turnout of sprints and their crews.
Not to mention that most spectators got in for $13 with the radio stations offer of a $2 discount.
Our regular admission price is $12 and $25 Pits, and we offer a discount nearly every week.
Next week we have Miller Twin 25's for the UMP Late Models, plus a huge Fireworks display and Scott Holdridge's Jet Powered Quad melting down a couple of cars. All that for just $12 Adults!
Fireworks run about $3,000 and the Quad runs $1,500, not to mention that it costs roughly $15,500 just to open the gates, on a regular night. A sprint car purse is roughly 2.5 times more than a regular Late Model purse.

Sorry to hear Kankakee took a hit last night. The crowd must have been less than expected?
For $15 dollars, you would never see a more talented field of sprint cars in this area. Try going to Wilmot. For $15 you will see 18 sprints and endure marathon support division races.
And the $30 pit pass. In the scheme of what racing costs today, if that $30 pass is a problem it might be time for a new hobby.

Seriously, a 10,000 dollar loss?
That is terrible to hear, I didn't know that sprint car racing was so dead in northern illinois. It was a beautiful night. The fans just didn't show up?

Thanks to Kankakee for having the IRA last night. As stated great field of cars but the crowd did look light and the fans that did not show missed some great racing. I have to admit it was cool, damp and windy in the afternoon which I am sure kept some of the families away but about hot laps time the sun came out a bit and made it a bit better. For someone who had not been to this track for 20 years what a difference with the banking in the corners and it produced some great bullring racing.
I hope the Kankakee has the IRA back in 2012! Off to Plymouth tonight. I would say the only outsider that was there last night that will be there tonight is Chad Blonde.

Couple of thoughts here.
First, Kankakee is not typically Sprint Car country. Late Models having the night off may have reduced the great a little. Weather may have played a factor, being gloomy all day. But I knew those overcast skies would produce some great racing given the rains we had earlier in the week.
The Bourbonnais Friendship Festival is also going on this entire week, but typically the people I see there are not the same type of people I see at the racetrack.
Good news is, when the sprints come to town, I see a lot of new faces here. Should it be a $20 show...perhaps. But we like to offer a discount on Adult admission nearly every week. A $20 ticket and we would have broke even I'm guessing. The fans that did show (700 or so) got to see some great racing, and were held to the edge of their seats until the final corner when Chad Blonde made his incredible move for the win.
Still a great night of racing. A great turnout by the IRA and other drivers, crews, and fans. Steve Sinclair definitely did an outstanding job of promoting this on his end, and running his part of the show.
One final note... the man who had the heart attack or seizure I'm told is doing better. He was a member of the Mike Hess crew I'm told.
The woman who was hit late at night in the stands during the street stock feature by a large clump of clay is also doing well. Just a headache I'm hearing. Just a painful reminder to always be alert when at a race track and to stay away from all fencing. She was initially knocked unconscious when the clod of clay struck her head. I immediately called for a red flag to get her medical attention. She was transported to a local hospital, treated and released.
All's well, that end's well.

There was a typo on the website indicating it was a $3,000 to win show. I know some of the IRA shows pay this much, however this show pays the same as last year... $2,200 to win.
Sorry for the error.
No matter... this is still shaping up to be perhaps the best Outlaw Winged Sprint we have ever had here dating back to 2004 when Jason Johnson was victorious with a last lap pass. That year, Wayne Johnson of Mustang, OK also established the official one lap track record at Kankakee, blistering the 1/3-mile high banked clay oval in 11.600 seconds. No UMP Late Model has cracked the 14 second mark yet this year (14.194 season best effort).
Speaking of clay... this past October, 100 truckloads of clay were hauled in and added to the track's surface. The results have been amazing thus far in 2011. Not only do we still have the high low action that we've always had, but now we also have multi-grooves in between. The low side of the track surface was raised promoting more mulit-grooved racing here this year. Countless races this year have come down to the final lap, and even the final turn, and four wide racing is not uncommon.
Like most midwestern tracks, we have had our fair share of Mother Nature this spring, however, she has done us a great service in helping with the track prep. Seems she is a fan of Kankakee and likes to go racing on Friday nights here. We have yet to be rained out this year!
I'm looking forward to a great turnout of cars, and extremely fast race surface, and a tremendous show put on by all the talented drivers who have indicated they are coming. This is the only time this year, the Winged Sprints will appear in the Chicagoland / Illiana area. Action you won't want to miss... and if you blink, YOU PROBABLY WILL!
Drivers coming from IL, WI, MO, IA, and MI now.
Drivers confirmed are..... 3-time IRA Champ Bill Balog 6-time Knoxville & Husets Champ Terry McCarl 2-time IRA Champ Scotty Neitzel 3-time MASS Champ Jerrod Hull 2002 IRA Champ John Haeni 1999 IRA Champ Donny Goeden multi-time Butler MI Champ Chad Blonde 2007 IRA Kankakee Winner Mike Reinke multi-time IL Track Champ Jim Moughan
