If they were going to change it because someone died, then it would have happened after Earnhardt.   I'm praying Newman's OK but it sure didn't look good where he got hit.

What the he'll are you talking about.... almost every year a Sprint car driver gets killed. I would say considering the danger, NASCAR has done a pretty good job on the safety of the drivers.

It's time for the drivers to band together and put an end to it.

When it comes to plate racing they haven't done squat.  At Daytona and Talledega cars are safe....tracks and racing itself are the dangerous part.

Getting rid of plate racing completely is the only smart decision. I never liked plate racing since they introduced it. If you're not fast enough to keep up with the rest, TOUGH SHIT.

It is 7:00 PM MST.  Please be careful what you say.  There has been no update on Ryan's condition.

They stopped using restrictor plates last year beginning with the Talladega race. They went to tapered spacers instead.

Plates or spacers; what's the difference?  The "racing" is still trash!

They would also have to be the ones to stop blocking and turning each other. Nascar has to do something about giving them a car to where the speed is reduced but the leader isn't the one at a disadvantage.

I'm not an Austin Dillion fan, but something should have been done after that as a huge bullet was dodged that year when he when to the fence. Being pushed from behind with people around him blocking.

Newman was blocking & that is not at all to blame him. He is going for the win & as the leader, He shouldn't be at a disadvantage because of aerodynamics & race design. If a disadvantage happens it should be because of tires or HP, or ability. Take him out of the equation & put another one in it & same thing happens & that's the problem. And you can't fault Blaney he shouldn't have to get out of the gas because of someone blocking him. Plate/spacer races were never this bad in the 90s or early 2000. You still had the big one but you also had guys able to separate. Now it seems you have to shove the guy ahead of you to move up & he has to block you to keep you behind him

Nascar has tweeted that Newman is in Serious Condition but Doctors have ruled his injuries are not life threatening. Goes on to ask for privacy & continue thought & prayer

I also believe the pressure of winning to get into the chase has these drivers doing “whatever it takes” to get victories. That and the safety of the new cars has them making moves I don’t think they would typically make. I hope this opens some eyes and forces some change.  NASCAR needs to realize increasing the risk to the drivers isn’t worth better ratings.

Glad Newman will be ok.  Some of the d bags commenting on Twitter are disgusting.  saying he's dead or they were doing cpr on him.  Can't people use their brains once in a while and just stfu?

I was shocked by that too, but I guess with what I read online on a daily basis, it shouldn't surprise me.  I saw on his facebook page that he announced that him and his wife were seperating.  My first thought to this was that I bet his kids weren't at the race.  I don't know if this was true or not but if it was, I could only imagine them being frustrated with the lack of updates and going online and reading the same crap about their own father.

Glad Ryan will be fine. Blocking at 200MPH for the win. That crash looked so much worse than Earnharts but still the worst crash ever telecast was Michael Waltrip hitting the entrance gate and He was fine. They are as safe as any form of racing.
