I find it interesting that most major racing events post on there media poster the purse and its amount but nothing on this release.  Thia once proud race was one of 5 major outlaw events each year posting a 50 thousand to win purse.  What the heck has happened to this race and what is the promoter of this doing?  Yes, I know all the past up til now but come on people really.  So I guess this race has went from the Penthouse to the outhouse yet tickets, camping, concessions keep going up, up, up!, along with car counts so low its beyond the pale.  Something aint right with this picture.  Is this a Outlaw promoted race for 10 thousand fri eve and 12 thousand sat eve?  If so,  why has this once great race gone bad? Its terrible and I blame solely the promoter for this shame.  Damn, Silver Dollar was a once great track and Gold Cup was a once awesome event, not just a race but event and happening. Hope we get a new bunch in charge soon and restore the track and its great events.

Now watch the race fans run to the promoters aid and be satisfied for the crumbs when we once had the whole cake.  Watch and see.

For sure, this once great race is a shell of its former self, has been for a long time. California is ripe for a huge sprint car race, I know it’s expensive to operate there, but I just feel with the amount of cars and fans out there, a 50k to win type show at a nice facility would be successful.

I was there for 10 Straight years starting in the mid 90's and it was one of the jewels, right up there in the conversation with the other 2 biggies and they had almost as many cars as Knoxville.  Robbie and John Padjen were a big part of this and they remain in my opinion the best Husband/Wife combo of track promoters of all-time.  John lived on that tractor and always had one heck of a track to race on, the tackiest in the country, right up there with Haubstadt.  It was one big party and Calif folks know how to throw one of those, man I miss those days....

man you aint a kidding. hangin' out at the crazy horse saloon partying with pylant, shaffer amongst other drivers, haulers taking up every parking lot in town, best memories; tk in the abc readymix teal blue 7t almost taking down the king in 02 this race was a spectacle that has been reduced to just another weekend outlaw race. hell, the pacific sprint cup, if thats what they still call the wednesday race, is one of the better races of the weekend. all of this said, our diehard group of 5 will make the 6 hour trek for the 18th straight year, hoping for another great gold cup time.                                                  p.s.  the golf tournament was a lot of fun also

That '02 race saw Steve walk all the way down to the 4th turn to HUG TK after that epic duel, won't ever forget that moment....

Yeah JP, that's why I put it in Capital letters.  I actually thought/hoped he was passing the throne, but alas that has not yet come to fruition and then somebody named Donny Schatz happened.  A memory that anyone who saw it won't soon forget!  Enjoy the GC this year, sad that it isn't the same.  Do you still have your BBQ for the fans and Drivers?  Does Shawn still come, it used to be a big highlight for him....
