Just to let you know, I'm in Edmonton for about 10 days, doing my best to put up with some Canadians, but enjoying the cooler weather. Has there ever been a noted sprint car driver from this area?  And have sprint cars ever run here at the dirt track.  Come on over and I'll buy ya lunch, it's just a short drive, eh?

Rico lost the best sprint car mechanic on the planet.  And no, I don't know who works on the car now. But Ric will be back.

Drew Warner, Ricky's son, is his crew chief. Been with him for about 2 months or so now.

Welcome to paradise!

Castrol Raceway in Leduc is the only track in Alberta that regularily had sprints but if you go to their outdated website you get the idea they have backed off a lot on weekly shows.  Some sort of series with 4 other tracks in the area each hosting the full slate of classes once per month.

Skylar Gee is the big name local who travels. Has followed the Woo from Grand Forks to Washington in various patterns in the past few years.

Woo have raced the Oil City Cup from  2007  til the last visit in 2015. My exact details may be off as I live 900 KM away. ( that's just under 3,000,000 feet ) (too far for lunch).Been to the track about 5 times usually to watch the WoO.

Maybe you could stop by and visit them.

Gee and Gee Racing.

Thanks for the info.  I recall Skylars Dad racing with the WoO years ago, attended a lot of races he was in.  great driver and looks like Son is carrying on the tradition.  You all sure have some great summer weather up here.

Roger, I would be there in a heartbeat if I could, you know that!

I lived in Edmonton for about 8 months back in 1975, including one winter and the good news is I am just finally thawing out from it...

I moved to Calgary and spent 6 good years there, what a difference.  Go to an Eskimos game, they are still my favorite CFL team, think you might like it.  Edmonton always was a great sports town, hello Mr. Gretzky, even though it's 3 miles from the North Pole.

Have a great trip Sir, let me know if you're ever in between Motown and Hogtown (Toronto) coz' that's where I live, all the best, Take It Easy....

Thanks Mike.  My Brother and I are planning another "bucket list" venture sometime this fall and the Detroit area is included in our plans and then on to catch a race at Eldora.  How far is Detroit from you?  If reasonable, Perhaps we could meet up somewhere.

Drew Warner will get Rico rolling soon. He's a good kid with the right bloodline for his job. Being able to lean on his pops for a tip or three can't hurt.

Cheers!

Thanks Stubb, I'll be in touch.  My Brother has never been there.  My last trip to Eldora was the night after my good friend Johnny Bankston lost his life there.  To this day I am so thankful that I was not there to witness.  Good guy Danny Wood was still racing with the WoO the night I was there.  A lot of emotions that night, Bangston was well liked by everyone, well almost everyone.

I've never heard of anyone that didn't like John Bankston. If you see the Stubbs be sure and give his better half Gail a big hug assuming she is there. I'm not sure if you want to get that close to the main Stubb. You never know where that cat has been :-).

John Bankston was one of the nicest guys to ever race a sprint car.  He raced anywhere and anytime he wanted to, having his funds was nice and very few people were aware of this.  He was the greatest 'ladies man' I have ever witnessed, John had a way with the opposite sex that should have been made into a movie or a best seller, 'smooth operator' had to be written about him.  A couple of things people didn't know about John; his two real loves in life were Snow Skiing (anywhere in the Rockies) and Scuba Diving.  If you ever spent any time in his office, you would have figured that out in seconds and not known he raced sprint cars coz' he had no photos of them hanging on his walls.....

Yeah in my opinion Paul Silva is at the top. But that's just my opinion. And I'm pretty sure I'm right. Cheers.
