Rico Abreu's pavement commitment takes him out of the Knoxville Nationals, crew member to take one lap and pull off

Rico's a good guy and a good racer but if he already knew he wasn't going to be able to race, he essentially took away someone's opportunity to race the A main that really earned the chance with a good week. Imagine how the guys who just missed out on points feel right now, especially if that driver finshes 5th in the B tonight.

Bonehead, selfish move by Abreu in this situation and stupid of Knoxville to allow it going in.

Sure it's disappointing that he won't be running in the A, but if you watched Thursday you know he earned that spot.  And I don't think "selfish" is the correct word ^^^

Why should he park it? He raced his way into the A and the others who had the same opportunity didn't. He is also donating the money to Kevin Swindell so I don't think he is selfish.

maybe selfish is a bit harsh, but I agree with you on the main point.  Lots of good racers running hard and working their butts off all week to get one of those A main spots.  It's important to them.  Everybody loves Rico but he should have thought about this and how it keeps a quality racer from the biggest sprint car race of the year. It also cheats the fans too. They didn't pay big money to watch a crew member suit up and pull in after one lap.  With that said, I also like Rico and wish him well in his pavement race. Question: can another team run his number and buy that spot?

Rico is a class act.  He isn't selfish in the least. He gives it all he has every time he gets in the car.   He has made open wheel racing more exciting for all of us.   He earned the spot, the car and team deserve to take the green and pull in.  Every other team in the pits would do the same thing.  More power to you,  Proud to see you keep your commitment to run the other race given the circumstances.  That's a sign of an unselfish driver.

Giving my portion.......So.....Say he takes 50% of the till.....So his portion is $5k for the "A" Main start and just for giggles, let's say that he made another $3k this week in the prelim.

It's a DAMN shame that #1, he would do this, knowing full and well when he made his 2015 racing schedule that there was NO way he could run both the NAPCRAP race and Saturday night at the Knoxville Nationals. So, let me play devil's advocate and ask this. Would he have just parked the car and pocketed the cash if KS wouldn't have gotten injured? And #2......SHAME ON YOU KNOXVILLE RACEWAY FOR ALLOWING THIS TO HAPPEN!!! Rico should have to scratch the car and let someone who's priority is to RACE in the Knoxville Nationals have that shot.

Would they start and park if they were in the C Main tonight? If the answer is yes then I am fines with what they are doing, if the answer is no then they should pull the car. They knew he would not be at Knoxville Saturday night.

Not being totally familiar with Knoxville Nationals qualifying, is it the car, not the driver who qualifies? If he wants to really help Kevin Swindell put a good driver in the car and make as much money as possible. There are some darn good drivers not qualified that would have jumped at the chance to put their seat in the car.

if you think he doesn"t deserve it how about this view...the ones that you say are "not getting" to race because of the start and park, they should have kicked his ass and earned their way in as Rico did.  Not promoted into the spot due to any start and park situation!  you want in, earn it...

AGREED......   Absolute bullshit that he races the prelims and gets in the A main then bows out for a prior commitment. He in essence screwed over dozens of fellow racers by racing his prelims and changing the finishing order. Knoxville should not allow this end of story. It's an insult to fellow drivers and fans alike.

Rico isn't bowing out because he is a nice guy. You aren't seeing past the wool. He is chasing a much bigger paycheck, NASCAR.  5k at this point is chump change to him compared to what he is hoping to make on Sunday's. He should have never raced in Knoxville if he wasn't willing to meet the entire obligation.

$10,000 is a lot of money. He has a couple of options, but no sane one doesn't involve collecting 100 c-notes.

Someone can pay him for the spot if they want it so bad. Before provisionals people used buy spots all the time.

Rico qualified in yes , Should he be paid for it NOOOOOOO especially since they told everyone thats what they are going to do. Knoxville should add another starting spot and DQ Rico for the night.

I like Rico but call bullshit on this one. Donating the money is a way to appease the fans. Scratch him off and move everybody up a spot. Glad I didn't buy his shirts for this years nationals. Donating the money is nice but don't think that even needs to be mentioned to try to smooze the fans over for skipping out.
