Saw a lot of banter on Twitter about Periscope last night. Interesting topic. I believe I even saw that Johnny Gibson was predicting lawsuits and a future shutdown of the service - wonder if he has the same mindset regarding SnapChat, Facebook, Twitter etc. or of it is only the live aspect of Periscope. 

Can somebody explain to this aged traveller now home to roost what Periscope is?  Thanks in advance....

It's basically live streaming on a phone to phone basis.

The broadcaster loads the Periscope app and uses the camera on their phone to broadcast.

Viewers can use the Periscope app to connect to this broadcaster and watch the feed. Same idea as a TV broadcast but on a much simpler peer-to-peer level. 

If you are linked to someone who broadcasts via Twitter, it makes viewing their broadcasts even easier. When they begin broadcasting, you should get a audio alter thru your phone letting you know that a broadcast has begun. I think thats the best way to see other broadcasts.

Embrace Periscope and use it for what fans cant see, or fans that are at the races that dont get to see behind the scences work, such as red flag work, engine changes and things of that nature. 

I will tell you follow myself on periscope (AlexJohnson69) and you will see some pretty cool stuff this weekend from the McCarl camp on Sunday! 

My opinion: The live broadcast aspect of Periscope will be changed. I just don't see the NFL and major concert promotors like Clear Channel allowing unauthorised broadcasts of their events.  (And even now, broadcasting events to which Periscope users don't have legal rights is considered a violation of the app's terms of service.)  Do I think Periscope will exist in SOME form? Yes.  I just see changes to prevent live broadcasting of sporting events, concerts, etc. that are not free to the general public. 

It's Napster all over again......

I believe you will soon see that the bigger tracks will have periscope disabled at their facilities, especially if they are offering a paid internet broadcast.  Apparently the tech neccessary to stop it in a stadium etc. is already available.....  Doubt if smaller once a year or twice a year tracks will go to the trouble/costs of shutting it down but Eldora, Knoxville, Charlotte, etc. certainly will.......

Pretty cool if you ask me! I just watched hot laps from Attica from the flag stand....and I'm in Ca. Then I watched some hot laps from the Beer Hill at the Grove.....what a great way to waste time!

Would love to know how this works. I've got to think Periscope would be involved with this and imagine it would involve geolocating the phone - any links on this by chance?

This is an interesting topic.  All I can say is if you are an employee of or a media member attending the Knoxville Raceway, don't use it if you want to keep your golden pass.  Outside of cars racing on the track, we are embracing it with a live feed for behind the scenes things. Be sure to follow the Knoxville Raceway on all platforms. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, Vine, Pinterest, and Periscope.

Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, Vine, Pinterest and Periscope?  I saw my first race in 1960 and still haven't mastered waiting for NSSN to arrive in the mail two weeks after the race.  Probably this wouldn't work on my flip phone.

Maybe Metallica will kill Periscope too?

My thing is it's cool if your sitting at home or half way around the country but I can't see anyone in their right mind opting to stay home and watch a blurry far off amature video that in most cases is following a certain driver, not the general race, over going to a live show or paying for a  professional broadcast. Maybe I'm wrong, but nothing beats everything that comes with pulling into a track all the way through leaving the track And the live streaming broadcast is still worth the money (up to a point, DONT OVERCHARGE). But that being said we will find a way to ruin it I'm sure. 

I watched the Waynesfield Speedweek show last night on Periscope. With the pit seating in 3-4 it works out good for people videoing. You had to definetly focus on the cars and know who is who but to see the race when I could not make the 2.5 hour drive last night it was cool. Going to give it a try tonight if someone is posting coverage!

they'll never stop technology, if it's not periscope there will be 50 more just like it.  Unless they start doing full searches and ban cell phones and other technology into the gates, it will NEVER be stopped

Now track are seeing what us photographers have been battling.....Nothing like shooting victory lane shots and having some drunk photo bomb it trying to get their shot.......
