Again nobody was injured but I've been going out there since 1962 and it's one of the scariest incidents I've seen not just at CLS but any track. Fortunately everyone was alright and fence will be repaired.

I'm sure they will blade that area by the wall in order to make the wall taller and the fence will be repaired. It's amittedly not top of the line fencing and I saw a Modified go through going into four some years back at their annual end of season event. I haven't sat in the stands in over sixteen years but I used to pick my spots carefully when I was spectating at the WoO shows. I'll admit that I'd like to see something a little more up-to-date than the wood posts. Not only do they shear off easily but you worry about pieces of the wooden posts getting into the cockpit and spearing a driver.
There was a lot of luck involved in that deal for driver and fans. No little kids were running up and down the hill playing with toy cars like I usually see when I walk past there. Speaking of walking past there it's the area that people use to walk around to the backstretch and fortunately nobody was on the path. The thing that stopped the car wasn't driver skills as some suggest, someone close to the incident said that the fence fabric wrapped around the front axel and stopped it. You can see the car heading straight up the bank then snapping and turning like a dog on a short leash. Sometimes my kids come out there with a few of the grandkids and park in that area. If they had been there and anything had happened that would have been the end of my 50+ year racing addiction. I was down in the infield in 1&2 and saw the whole thing develop and it was unlike anything I have ever seen out there how the car was lauched.
I'm glad that nothing happened and it gives them an opportunity to evaluate their setup. The track is one of the best in our area and is a very racy little place with some huge special events. I've known the owners since they took over the place and knew the previous owners as well so I'm very happy that nobody was hurt.
