a golden driller trophy without a purse...You race for the trophy.  If your coming for the purse you might find yourself disappointed.

If I had a dollar for every time a thread has been started wondering about the purse for the chilibowl or every time somebody has complained about the purse down there I would for sure have enough money to cover the entire Saturday night A main purse next year.

Loose is when you hit the wall with the rear of the
car, tight is when you hit the wall with the front of
the car. Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall and
torque is how far you move the wall.

If you have to ask what the purse is, you probably don't have a car or driver, that can bring home anything anyways.

200,000 or a Trophy?

by Larry Boos
ROSSBURG, Ohio (Jan. 13, 2003) - One million dollars for two nights of Sprint Car racing at Eldora Speedway has been hinted at for several years now, but legendary promoter Earl Baltes has made it official. Over the weekend of September 19 and 20, Sprint Car history will be made at the Ohio speed plant, and in a rich way.

Baltes made the startling announcement over the weekend, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, while in attendance at the renowned Chili Bowl Classic.

While the million dollar payoff was pretty much expected, and Sprints were predicted to be the cars of choice, anticipation and speculation ran rampant over the issue of ‘winged’ or ‘non-winged’. Currently, both forms of Sprint racing populate the busy Eldora schedule on an annual basis.

In his announcement, Baltes cleared the air by stating that the competition would be in the form of non-winged Sprint Car racing.

Many of the details of the historic weekend are still to be ironed out, such as ticket pricing and ordering, race format and most importantly, would the event carry a sanction? To that extent, Baltes promised to release all details as they are firmed.

“Basically, what I can confirm is, yes, Eldora Speedway will hold a race for non-winged Sprint Cars, with $1,000,000 in prize money on the line. The race will be Friday and Saturday, September 19 and 20 with a weather date of the 21st. I don’t have the complete breakdown yet, but the feature race will pay $200,000 to win and $10,000 to start - everyone will make some money,” offered Baltes during his brief announcement.

The Chili Bowl isn't about the $$$ - if it were, they'd have a car count of about 40.

Only stated purse $$$ I have seen or heard is the $10,000 to win (they re-iterated several times on the MavTV broadcast).

I personally could care less what hte purse is (I have no dog in the fight).

Geez people, get a life. It was a curiosity question. That simple. Nothing more.

I have NEVER seen it posted anywhere.

Like I stated in my previous post, the only part of the purse even mentioned was the $10,000 winners prize for Saturday.

I could be wrong (and very possily am) but I have been told that it doesn't pay anything to 'start' the A main....just the chance to say you 'made the A at the Chili Bowl" and get to race for the $10,000 winner's share and that coveted Golden Driller.

Beat 250 of the best to say you made the A?    And the 18" driller trophy!  That trophy should be bigger than Rico.  Now you have MavTv covering it and racinboys getting $25 a nite.  Time to put some of that revenue back to the racers that got it there.   10K is a joke.

I totally agree!  Owners and drivers are being ripped off big time!

280 teams seem to care alot less about the purse than you...

If there was an issue with the payout then entries would drop and obviously that has never happened.

And for the fans. Where else can you go and have a whole season of racing in one week.

We need more sprint car racing at our home track.
