I want to preface this with emphasizing I have NOTHING against the KWS.  I simply wish to share some personal feelings.

I am very concerned about 410 racing. I don't know the underlying problems but I hope, for the good of the fans, the owners and drivers can come up with something.

You have a lot of owners who, like Morrie Williams, have been around the 410 group for a long time.  Maybe it is possible they band together and come up with a solution.

The hey-day of NARC is long gone.  I just don't want to see our 410 series die on the vine.

If you have answers please share but PLEASE do me a favor.  Don't bash the KWS because that is not my point here.

I think the present 410 racing is like a sick child and I want to know "who" the doctor might be and what the doctor prescribes for a "get well" for my child.

Thanks much,

leon

I think they need a Saturday home track near a large metro area, race that track two to three times a month and cut the travel to once a month. Stockton needs work but would be a nice fit with it's central location and potential. The Bay area and Sacramento are the mother load of fan basis not to mention Stockton and Modesto. Obviously a track in Fernley doesn't fit that bill.

Prescription:

2-3 Saturdays a week at a home track that's in or near a large metro area.

1-2 weeks of Saturday travel to Placerville, Petaluma, Antioch, Calistoga, Tulare, Hanford, Chico, Watsonville.

Caution: If you start thinking there are more motor-heads in Nevada then California, get to a Neurologist!

-----------.

Long live California 410 sprint cars!

The day the San Jose area gets another dirttrack and race only 410's...will I feel 410 racing is safe in Cali. Until that day... I will have a fear of the Golden State Challenge (KWS) and Chico will die off due to bad promoting, bad track prep and bad decisions (like taking over a track & racing 410's in Reno)

It's too bad, with all the tracks we have from Santa Maria to Chico, that we can't have Fri/Sat races at each of these tracks at least twice a year.

Just think....

Santa Maria, Tulare, Hanford, Merced, Stockton, Antioch, Watsonville, Calistoga, Petaluma,  Chico and Placerville.  That could fill up over four months of races.

I know it would take a lot of work but I still feel there is enough fan support to make something like this work.

Track owners/promoters cut their own throats.  They schedule against each other and wonder why they have low car counts.  Owners do not support local tracks...case in point...over the last 5 years of the Louie Vermeil Classic most local drivers/owners haven't shown.  The field is always top notch, thanks to SoCal, a few big names from back East, and the occassional NorCal, but few support this great event that honors a lot of NorCal drivers/owners of the past.  I dunno if they can't race wihout wings or the place is too fast, but it would be nice to see this event see better support by the locals.

From my perspective, the car owners/drivers have a different set of needs than track owners/promoters.  The car owners/drivers need a strong purse/prize package. With high fuel cost, travel is costly for a nightly expense. KWS had the right idea in this way. If the race promoter offers a strong money package, car owners/drivers will come. As far as the other tracks scheduling the same day, they have the option to compete by offering the same package or better. Its a buisness, and must be treated like it! As far as the track promoters issues, they need to sell something the drivers want. Good car count brought by prize/start money,  a good track that doesn't eat up tires,(no need to use up all your show up money on tires because you race on badly prepped tracks), and a timely show. You can't run these shows so late!

The tracks make there money by filling stands, and people come to good shows. Have the top drivers(by offering good purses), get the fans out of there the same day they came, and give them value for there ticket price, and you will build up a great fan base. In the bay area, we have fans, tracks, and cars, we just lack the thing that brings it all together. Lastly,  when tracks let rules become unstable, they risk killing off car counts. stick to a format, and get tech in order. I hear more owners bitch about lack of tech than I should! Spec sprints have become the model of whats wrong with sprint car racing, tighten the purse, loose cars, change specs, all you do is create a new class. What was wrong with flat tappet cams?  I see some tracks with stable car counts for weekly shows, its up to the promters to sell the package to the racers. We all have allot on the line!

My biggest thing is I just hate when there is a big 360 race and a KWS race on the same night and just hours away from each other! It makes fans and drivers have to choose what race is to go to and car counts suffer because of it! I have heard people compare the Civil War and KWS as quality versus quantity. The KWS migh only have 20 something cars but many of them are long time racers with lots of wins wereas the Civil War has 30-40 cars but many of the drivers are first year drivers or locals. I think there are great drivers in both series and I try to go to as many of both series as I can. Many of the drivers who race with the Civil War are good enough to race with KWS but don't have the funds to travel to as many races! For instance Andy Gregg used to race with the KWS but now he races mainly at Placverville and some other 360 races.

I also agree with Racedoggie on his views!

Looking forward to the new Golden State King of the
West series schedule!

I think most tracks can take a page out of Watsonville's play book on how to keep the race program running at a good pace and track set up. No one likes all the down time between races and getting out at such a late time and still have a two to four hour drive to get home after the race. Track prep and keeping the program running is the key to keeping the fans happy and coming back for more.

I agree...when you go to the movies or a sports venue the show plays on...except for the 7th inning stretch in baseball...or halftime in football...the track prep I think is also key...I don't really misses wheel pack or hot laps...

+1 I drove to placerville for the ASCS nationaca sprints a couple of years ago. I'm in orange co. So cal. they got me out of there at 9:30 I was back in my driveway by 3:30. Thinking about doing it tomorrow for the Forni classic.

We need more sprint car racing at our home track.
