From the Sacramento Bee...... "Local motor sports notes: Promoter builds dirt racetrack at Stockton fairgounds...... By Mark Billingsley, Bee Correspondent...... Published: Friday, Oct. 26, 2012 - 12:00 am | Page 3C...... "Tony Noceti is doing his community a favor...... Noceti, who leases Stockton 99 Speedway, has built a new three-eighths-mile dirt circuit in the infield of the horse track at the San Joaquin County Fairgrounds in Stockton. He hopes to have between eight and 10 dirt-track shows starting next year with at least one date with the World of Outlaws...... "It's a beautiful facility and can fit between 9,000 and 10,000 in the grandstands," said Noceti, who took over Stockton 99's asphalt track in 2009 after it had lain dormant for three years and was facing bulldozers to make way for houses before the economy collapsed. "The (San Joaquin County) fair board has been very supportive, and frankly this track will help bring in some much-needed revenue."...... "Noceti said he's already been in contact with the World of Outlaws, the nation's premier traveling sprint car series, about having at least one show next year. The Outlaws already race each spring and late summer in Chico and Calistoga, so a trip down Highway 99 for another large purse could be enticing" (end of newspaper article)...... Outlaws, schmountlaws once Noceti finds out what it costs to just =buy= the show for a night (let alone promote and run it), unless he works out a track rental deal with them, which they are usually reluctant to do with a new track)...... Noceti will make his money (in sprint cars at least) with all the Ocean et al 360s and KWS 410s in the vicinity. There are probably, what 80-100 cars within a three-hour tow?

opnwhlr: Thanks for the update... and call me wrong (have been b4; will be again)..... But it may well be that Noceti sees a $100K+ (or a no rental) Outlaw show as a good, season- and track-opening kick-off promotion to bring attention to the track =and= try to make some money on the deal. Considering what was likely spent to acquire the lease and upgrade the facility, $100K+ may be chump change. He will =make= money on the KWS and winged 360 car shows, hopefully scheduling them along with the non-wing USAC Classic 410s to make them all-open-wheel shows with sufficient back-gate revenue to do so.

The sportmod guys have tested at the new Stockton dirttrack. Here is what one of the guys said about the track:

Well it was my car and the test was to help set the rules for next year. The track is bad fast and the sport mod performed extremely well. We did add a sway bar and had to change the left front upper control arm. Stayed with everything else except the gear. Just changed the setup to pavement and the car turned very well. Hope I shed some light as this class will be awesome on the new track

I saw a pic, and it did look further than normal... maybe 30 yards away. I don't know about 100 yards tho. Also heard that lights were being installed before the Outlaws show up in April.

Ca Sprintcar fan - they are going to run Sportmods on the half-mile pavement Kern County Raceway in Bakersfield. That post refers to a test these guys did:

Wow real advertisement in the local newspaper . What a great idea . Maybe some other track promoter might wanna try this and increase the ticket sales. I hear a lot of tracks talking about attendance being down but those are the tracks that you never hear of advertising in a newspaper or on a radio. I hope Stockton is completely packed inside and out.
