Breaking News: USAC Penalizes Levi Jones for Kokomo Incident
by Chris McWilliams on August 27, 2012 Email Facebook Twitter Print Comments (0)
Levi Jones
A scary incident during the closing laps of the feature event of last weekend’s USAC “Sprint Car Smackdown” at Kokomo Speedway has led to officials of The United States Auto Club (USAC) handing down penalties to one of the series most successful drivers.
The incident that led to the penalties started when Levi Jones made contact with Jon Stanbrough at the end of the front-stretch. The contact sent Stanbrough nearly head-on into the pit entrance gate at the start of turn one. Stanbrough’s car flipped violently back into oncoming racers where it was struck by Robert Ballou which caused his sprint car to flip as well and have the throttle stick wide open. Chad Boespflug was also collected in the huge incident.
Luckily, all drivers exited their cars with only Ballou leaving in an ambulance to receive treatment at a local hospital. After the incident Stanbrough walked down the front-stretch to have a little talk with Jones about what happened. After the race series officials spoke with both Jones and Stanbrough about the incident.
Officials also collected accounts of the incident from attending officials, eyewitness accounts, and track officials. The information collected led USAC officials to penalize Jones for on-track contact deemed to be avoidable and producing a dangerous situation for fellow competitors under section 10.28 of the competition rules. As a result, Jones will be placed under probation for the balance of the National Sprint Car season, with the understanding that further infractions could lead to more severe punishment. Also, Jones and his team will be docked 25 championship points going into the next series’ event at Tri-City Speedway in Pontoon Beach, Illinois this Friday, August 31st.

Amen USAC. That was a vicious accident that so easily could have turned out far worse than it did. Had Saturday night not been a points race, Jones & Ballou most likely wouldn't have used provisionals & Jones wouldn't have been driving way over his head.

Docking him 100 points and sitting out two races wouldn't be enough, that wasn't called for to drive like that and look at all those he endangered, maybe an apology at the next drivers meeting would help too............this is a very serious matter and should be policed at all times.

LEVI IS LAID UP
8/29/2012
FACT - (8-29-12 @ 12:38 pm) - Levi Jones is calling it a season. Levi
has been dealing with neck pain resulting from having three herniated
discs in his neck. Recently, Levi spent a day with surgeons to get
evaluated and it was determined that surgery can't be put off any
longer. Surgery is scheduled for next week with a expected recovery of
12 weeks, thus ending his 2012 campaign.
Currently, Levi is leading the USAC National Sprint Car points by 26
points over Jon Stanbrough. This lead was cut down after last weekends
incident involving him and Stanbrough. I wasn't there so I don't know
what happened but from what I'm reading, Levi got together with Jon and
both went for a ride. This accident gathered a couple of other drivers
sending Robert Ballou to the hospital with back pain and a concussion.
USAC announced that Levi would be docked 25 points and put on probation
for the rest of the season. Reports are that Levi purposfully took out
Jon for running him up the track but whatever the reason, USAC felt it
necessary to act on the accident and punish Levi and the TSR Motorsports
#20 race team.

Yes it is on youtube. Hell I seen other drivers do the same thing. Even the ones involved. All of them. Hope like hell WOO does not go down the trail as Usac. The drivers seem to get things worked amongst themselves in WOO with out the sanctioning body giving there two cents. But with Usac they are always screwing something up.

If you can't piece together what a post about reckless driving has to do with Swindell, you must be confused a lot. There *needs* to be penalties like this implemented against Swindell. He certainly does not care how much he endangers others. At least USAC has competent people running the show, not desperate leeches like WoO who are much too afraid to cut off their drivers, regardless of how dangerously they drive, as it might cost them a buck.

Math is one thing but the thing that makes my scratch my head the most is the post that has the word "USAC" followed by "competent" then "people". When you put the whole sentence together you have the suggestion of USAC having such a thing and, well, I'm sorry but......that simply does not compute. You'd get me to believe in bigfoot without a picture before you would convince me of that one.....
