Former NCRA Modified South Champion Lassiter Back for 2012!
Will Compete Full-time with NCRA Modified North Division
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Midwest City, Oklahoma – March 19, 2012 - After claiming the 2010 National Championship Racing Association modified south championship back in 2010, Piedmont, Oklahoma driver Mickey Lassiter raced sparingly last year and contemplated one thing the whole season.
"Just go ahead and do it."
With the tire rule different throughout the state of Oklahoma and the NCRA modified (north) division, two separate sets of tires were required causing a lot of drivers to concentrate on weekly and special events throughout the state of Oklahoma. But after enjoying his time running full-time with the series now defunct NCRA modified south division, Lassiter is set to try his hand at the whole modified north tour this year.
"We have wanted to do this for a couple of years and we decided during the winter to buy those modified tires (Hoosier G60) and give it a shot," said Lassiter. "We have never been to four of those tracks that are on the schedule so that is seven races right there weren't not sure how we will fare."
However, with the series now allowing the USRA rules to compete at four events, he feels this will equal out when it comes to experience.
"We have raced Enid Speedway, Elk City Speedway, Route 66 Motor Speedway (Amarillo) and Mid- America Speedway (South Coffeyville, OK) while a lot of those Kansas guys have not, so I feel we have a bit of an advantage there."
"I can't do this without the help of my sponsors who are helping me through this. We have Lassiter Pools and Concrete, D&R Grading and big support from United Cellular." He will be piloting a brand new TRE by Bone chassis, powered by Brand Racing Engines out of OKC.
With Lassiter making the announcement that he will compete full-time with the series in 2012 and four out of eleven shows in Oklahoma and West Texas, he hopes this will open the door for more of the modified drivers in the state to step up and support the series.
"I really enjoyed running back in 2010 with a lot of those guys on the modified south tour and I hope to see them join me this year. Where else do you have a series that pays $1000 to win at each race and not spend the whole year traveling every weekend?"
The 2012 NCRA modified season kicks off on Saturday night, April 7th at 81 Speedway and will open their fifteenth consecutive season.
