Battle For 2011 NCRA Modified Championship Comes to a Close This Saturday Night!
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Park City, Kansas – September 26, 2011 - Four drivers have a mathematical shot at claiming the 2011 National Championship Racing Association of Park City, Kansas presented by Smiley's Racing Products modified division championship heading into this Saturday night's season finale at the home base for the series, 81 Speedway in Park City with two sophomore drivers sitting solidly in the top four in the point standings with one of them the current points leader.
Tyler Davis of Derby, Kansas, who won last year's rookie of the year in this modified division, took over the points lead at the last completed event held at the Belleville High Banks in Belleville, Kansas over Labor Day weekend and currently holds a very slim twenty point lead heading into the tracks annual "Wix Filters/Bumper to Bumper Fall Classic."
Bill Siemers of Mulvane, Kansas has held the top spot of the standings since the series first event back in April, but a subpar performance at Belleville slipped him back into the runner up position heading into this weekend. However, Siemers picked up his first career series victory at the last event held at 81 Speedway back on June 19th and looks for a repeat performance this Saturday night to claim the championship.
Not to be out done, former series champion Marc Hurd of Wichita is only seventy points out of the lead and despite a slow start to the season, has things ironed out and looks to win his second championship in three years.
Another sophomore driver on the tour, Dan Powers of Wichita who also finished second to Davis in last year's RoY honors, is by no means out of the running but will take some misfortune by the top three drivers in the standings as he sits 115 points out of the lead.
Ross Shipman of Belle Plain, Kansas sits a solid fifth in the point standings while rookie contender Austin Allen of Goddard sits sixth in the point standings.
Justin Moler (Wichita), Mike Jarvis (Wichita), Danny McFadden (Furley, Kansas) and current series rookie of the year leader Josh Lanterman (Wichita) currently round out the top ten in the standings.
Seven races have been completed thus far on the 2011race season with six different drivers having reached victory lane. They include former series champion Brian Franz of Wichita, who seems to have a lock on the Speedway as he has two feature wins this season.
Other feature winners include Shipman (81 Speedway), Justin Folk (Humboldt Speedway/Humboldt, Kansas), Hurd (Belleville High Banks/Belleville, Kansas) and Brian Blochlinger (Belleville High Banks).
Gates for the season finale open at 5:00 PM with racing set for a 7:00 PM start time. All general admission tickets are just $9 for adults.
