Them old Supers sure were fast. Flagman Mike Conner's died that night and it's crazy to see people standing out on the track while the cars are racing. Safety sure has changed for the better since then.

Some pretty awesome video, just cool to see how the track has changed from now to than. Hopefully we will soon be back racing their.

Don was mainly in the 6 cylinder class, and that's mostly what he was running on this day.

The engine sound is really the only way I can tell the difference sometimes.

 

Funny thing is, Don's six cylinder car was fast enough to do well in the supermod class too. On one night in Wichita, Don won the feature in the 6 cylinders, then loaned it to , I think, Frankie Lies, who then went on to 5th in the supermodified feature! There was only enough time to do a driver change.

Darrell Cleveland built the car and set it up in those days. He is a very interesting guy to talk to about those days.
