In case you can't check out Enid Speedway on FB........next weeks races have been cancelled due to water in the pits and the corner lights have not been installed. Of course there is no way to comment on the post on FB.........CONVENIENTLY?! Time to give up and go somewhere else I guess?

Is this really a surprise to anyone???

Its not to me at all!!!

I dont know if he will hold more racing or not but he cant make a penny when the sportmods are committed to racing elsewhere on that date, I called this more than a week ago... My guess is there is another monster truck and mud bog show in the very near future....

water in the pits, wouldnt that be perfect for the mud bogs?

Either he should have scheduled some NCRA Sportmod shows or paid his sportmods A LOT BETTER so he could still attract them... Just my opinion here but a full field of sportmods is a lot better show than 10 modifieds...

Well the best of luck to all my friends that are venturing out to race this weekend!!!!

What's NEW? Same bull just another day! Water in the pits is a joke! It's been in the 90s and has not rained in almost two weeks. But on the other hand I'm glad he cancelled them because the way he ran the show on the 22nd he is real lucky he did'nt get someone hurt. You can't have a car go over the wall and keep on racing.

I have tried to stay out of this and support racing at Enid but this is just to much to ignore. Everything is under water is plain bull****. I think that "Mr. Ed" (no offence to horses of the world) should just be straight and say he is not interested in Enid any longer and quit blowing smoke up our asses. He is not able to pad his pockets like he thought he would so he don't give a shit! Why not step down and let someone else give it a try? C.Ray wanted to but the county gave it to him, why? This is sad for racing at Enid and I hope something changes soon. I have been involved with a car since 1989 and my father before me and have never seen such bullshit at Enid Speedway in my life. Hope something changes!! Tom Roark

Well, looks like you all got your wish. As per Ed Beckley's FB page, he is out with regards to Enid Speedway.

does this surprise anyone? didnt everyone see this coming? the only show he had at enid this year was run horribly and in a very dangerous manner. Even he had to know that all his lies were going to catch up with him at some point! Seriously who brags about all these big shows coming to Enid and then cancels everything? Lets remember its June and he had one race here so in reality the track isnt worse off with Ed Beckley gone!!! Well, I believe all happens for a reason, hopefully there will be a silver lining here for Enid Speedway.

I'm not one to say "I told you so" so I wont....

Well, as I have stated and I will back up my previous remark, I do like Ed. Kinda over the top but before this year I feel he did alot of good things. What happened this year? I don't know but he did start off behind the eight ball with no lights, track equipment, etc. I always have and for the most part always will support him. Just this one didn't work out.

He has his Checkered Flag Productions and seeing his schedule and where all it takes him I know that is his bread and butter and I do wish him all the best.

Blast me if you will but those are my thoughts.

Im not going to blast you David, but as previously stated, this has been coming for a long time. I think it is a classic case of taking on more then you bargained for.I hate that this has happened, and I hope Enid speedway can survive this. I know I have blasted Ed in the past on this board, and I wish him the best. I just think it is going to take someone that is closer to Enid and dosent have so many obligations.Personally, I dont have a clue of what all goes on behind the scene on trying to promote a race track, but I do think it is going to take someone that has a lot of time to spend making this track a go again.Probably going to be a whole new rebuilding process. I think we as racers need to realize that we arent going to get rich doing this, and we arent going to make a living at it either. We do it because we love the sport and the competition. I built a car to run at Enid this year when I was under the impression that there were going to be weekly shows there, the car is complete and sitting in my shop.If Enid survives this, I will be there to support it.

One more thing to add to this, I dont know for certain that Ed has left the track, or gave up on it. I have not seen anything that officially says it is over.Does anyone know for certain? And where would a person find this out? Maybe Ed should post something official. No reasons or excuses, just let people know where the speedway stands at this point.

I think not having the equipment sure put him behind the eight ball for sure. David, I definitely cannot find anything in your post that I disagree with. I still think very highly of Ed Beckley and really enjoyed meeting him at Enid Speedway's Winter Nationals last year. I don't think that the problems that occurred during the first race of the year can fairly be placed at the feet of Ed, sure it is not necessarily the safest thing to hold a race without corner caution lights, but that was not through any fault of his own.

I wish Ed the best.

i will chime in on this...

Dont know what the problems were but it all lands on his shoulders when he is the one running the track!!! Plain and simple if the track wasnt safe he shouldnt have raced. He has shown that cancelling shows doesnt bug him much.

He could've had a lot more supporters had he not EXPECTED people to kiss his rear and treat him as a GOD that saved Enid Speedway! In my opinion he had a huge oppurtunity and failed everyone when he went back on his promise of weekly shows, cancelled all the big shows that he scheduled and bragged about, and put that unsafe show on!!!

Maybe no one else will say it but I will. I think Enid Speedway is better off closed than with someone like Ed Beckley promoting it( he had one show in 2011). I think it comes down to someone being closer and actually caring about the people locally.

just my opinion

Maybe cus ur the only person that sees it that way Jayson..A closed track is never better than a track that's open even if not ran properly. But as said before looks like you got what you wanted, hopefully somebody that meets your standerds is able to get Enid.

I'm glad that you have an opinion Glen Chapa...

Maybe you dont mind being at a track that is being ran completely unsafe or having a promoter lie to you everytime his lips move.... Maybe that is how you like it and if it is then I encourage you to go to the next track that he is promoting. I believe 100% that a closed track is tons better than one that is being ran unsafe where someone could be seriously injured or killed. Its not about meeting my standards there, its about keeping my friends safe.

Thank you for your comments though

No Glen, he isn't the only person thinking it just the only person talking about it. There are those in and around Enid who are echoing the thoughts.

Is my hope also glen chapa...

I would hope for weekly racing but any racing would be a plus as long as its done correctly. I'm one of the biggest fans of Enid Speedway ( I dont like to see it closed at all) but nothing is more important than the safety factor.

I believe that it will take someone that is really committed to the track, someone that is honest, someone that realizes that they need to work in conjunction with the racing teams in order to be successful. I have many many friends that race cars from enid and other places, I've been around the sport for more than 20 years and I know that once you lose respect for a place most will not return. I too hope that someone comes in and takes Enid Speedway back to where it should be...

Does anyone know if there is a reason that the county does'nt just hire someone to run the track rather than lease it out? Then they would get all the money. I'm sure there are plenty of local people with the racing knowledge but lack the money to get all the equipment to run the track that would be interested. The county could furnish all the equipment to keep the track in good shape. Just a thought.
