I was looking at the Speed Channel for Saturday and I didn't see the Knoxville Nationals listed. Is it on live TV this year? If so, what channel?

Looking forward to the new Golden State King of the
West series schedule!

PPV... great coverage

Saturday's race is tape delayed... forget which date, but Aug. 22nd or 29th seem familiar.

no live speed. look at aug 28 speed listings for time because that is when sat race will be on. PPV on computor is almost 20 bucks per NIGHT with NO coverage of sat. hose heads radio or kniakrls.com radio for audio of every night. with live updates at k-ville web site.

to indy and beyond!!

I would love to go someday! With 2 small kids I don't go to as many local races let alone all the way to Knoxville, Iowa!

The ppv deal is good if you can swing $20 for Thursday and Friday night. Also, Bill W's deal on Hoseheads radio and you can go to www.knoxvilleraceway.com and click on results and you can get up to the minute results and line ups. A really great deal either way you go...

Speed's telecast is taped delayed. Aug. 28, 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm central time, and replay is on Sept. 3, 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm ct. A good article about why it is taped delayed in Aug. 8 Des Moines Sunday register. And the article is on the Knoxville website in the news section. It's all about money!

You don't get "up to the minute results" at Knoxville's site. Too many people. I tried last night.

Hard to believe more people (on SPEED) want to watch, PINKS, PIMP MY RIDE, MONSTER MASH, MINNESOTA SNOWMOBILES, etc., thant want to watch a good sprint car race! Frown

It doesn't have to do with how many people want to watch it on Speed being low, it has to do with it being TOO high. To many people would rather sit at home and watch instead of coming to the races. Knoxville pays for the live coverage and is losing money in the stands.

Here you go... Des Moines Register Knoxville Article

Sure, that's why NASCAR, IRL, F1 and a few others do NOT broadcast their programs! Frown

You would think that Knoxville has a product to sell Speed, same as they sell you a general admission ticket.

This is whats sad about sprint car racing, anyone who remembers the TNN / Slick 50 days should agree that the sport has gone backwards in the last 20 years!

A lot of sports have gone backwards with the proliferation of television and electronics. It's not just sprint car racing, but I agree that sprint car racing has suffered. I also think it has suffered because of so many tracks that consistently abuse the fan with shows that don't start on time and run into the wee hours of the next morning. It's very family unfriendly. And look at most of the track websites -- they look like something from 20 years ago. The sport has not kept up with the changing technology. Knoxville can't carry the brunt of this. For the biggest race of the year to have a more favorable TV slot, the sport must be more popular nationally, and the things I listed above have cut at that popularity. Add it all up and you have the most famous race in the sport airing on television nearly 10 days after it occurs.

The day is coming where you'll see sporting events and other forms of entertainment get as much revenue from ppv and interenet new media marketing than from people's butts in the seats. New media is going to be here to stay so entertainment events and venues are going to have to find a way to use it.

I do think it's very nearsighted to show the first three nights on ppv and not show the final night ppv live. If I were Knoxville, I certainly would not want to pay SPEED or any similar cable/over the air media outlet the kind of money they demand.

Frankly, I can go to the races each night for free and sit in suite confort. Instead, I'd rather pay to watch on ppv on Wednesday and Thursday. I don't have to deal with people, buy concessions or anything else. I'll sit in my den, plug in the computer to my big screen tv and enjoy with plenty of family and friends. Then I'll just show up for Saturday.

PPV would be a great marketing and revenue outlet if the proper sponsorship would be available to keep the consumer cost down.

It's not going to get any easier to sell tickets in the future to this race. The sooner the fair board realizes this the better they can cope in the future.

I took my 5 and 3 year old this year. They enjoyed it very much. I traveled from Oklahoma. If you want to go, you will find a way.

There is still the possibility that Knoxville and HBO could come to a deal for a PPV for next year I believe. I think that would be + over either Turn2 or delayed broadcast on Speed.
I did rent the broadcast on Turn2 on Weds. and was happy with it, It would just be nice for a major network like HBO to broadcast it PPV, for me the huge advantage would be HD quality.
