Sprint Car Civil War roars into town Saturday
Outlaw Karts return Friday

By Bob Burbach

Marysville CA. Round two of the California Sprint Car Civil War will be staged at Paul and Kathy Hawes’ Marysville Raceway Park on Saturday night April 14. 40 plus fire breathing winged sprint cars will test the newly configured raceway with a full program. MRP regulars will challenge the best that northern California has to offer.

Local stars like Marysville’s Brandon and Cortney Dozier will be on hand. MRP point leader Jeremy Burt of Grass Valley will also make the tow. 2004 MRP Pacific Sprint Car champion Mike Monahan of Sparks Nevada (sometimes called “The Madman” for his hammer down style of driving) will also be in the house. Other hotshoes who had great runs in point competition last week include Gridley’s Shawn Amos who has been a serious challenger in both Pacific Sprint Car races this year and Sacramento’s Tom Baker. Baker stunned everyone last Saturday with a great last lap pass for a career best 4th place finish.

Though not competing for points this year, three time MRP champion Colby Wiesz of Colfax will be in the hunt for the Civil War prize. Wiesz has 28 feature event victories on his resume and is a real threat whenever he pulls to MRP. Wiesz was the most recent non point event winner picking up the hardware at the 1st Open Wheel Open staged here on March 24th.

Fairmont Indiana’s Brandon Wimmer brings a slim point lead into the event. The 15 race series will crown northern California’s top Pacific Sprint Car team after the final event in September. The evening will be capped by a 22 car 30 lap feature event after a series of heat races and preliminary main events.

On Friday night the remarkably entertaining winged Outlaw Karts will make their 2nd appearance of the new season. Friday will open point competition for 2007. It’s worth a look if you haven’t seen the Karts in a while. The show is quick and very competitive.
