DOHC CYLINDER HEADS
Any one out there besides Me, think they should be legal for all sprint cars?
Thanks,
Don Flanders

absolutely NOT, just more money to spend for what? More HP? to tear up the rear end drive line more,... to burn up more tires? the sport is already too expensive!

Just my opinion

how bout this one , say 355 cubic inches any cast iron head , single four barrel throttle body injection, you have to run a old style vertex mag,a spec cam no bigger than say 550 lift, and has to be 10 1/2 -1 compression with a wieght rule of 1500 lbs with no fuel in the car.

The USAC midgets are allowed to use a DOHC motor. The last time I saw one being used was at the Copper World. It grenaded during qualifying. The Esslinger is a SOHC motor that has some popularity with the midget crowd. But most of them are using the tried and true pushrod motors.

The DOHC SBC sprint car motor is many moons old AKA the Moser

IMO Jim Feuling (of the Ventura area I think) was so far ahead of his time in cylinder head technology, just an outrage what happened to his company and legacy, after his untimely passing

Rob, I noticed when we took your Desoto to the Hate Palin rally you had a TorqueFlight with the push buttons on the dash. How does it work for you?

I don't post much, but I'm going to tonight. DOHC heads are a very bad idea.

1. cost

2. Who would race against them. You know they will make more HP and suddenly all of the existing engines are obsolete.

3. Al, I agree with you. Lets get the cost down so more people can race. Maybe not Carb laden 358's BUT, I believe an Iron block 360 with a spec head and Vertex mags would be great because that means I would have two engines to run with.

Don't get me wrong, I love 410's that make 800+...But the truth is, 360 spec engine will keep sprint car racing alive in So-Cal.

If that was the deal, I'd be racing.

I think the real question here is, can a non-wing sprint car that uses the DT3 spec tire handle more HP then is currently available with the 410 OHV engine?

If the answer is no, then all of the existing engines would not be obsolete.

Leave the DOHC for the imports.... I will keep the cam in my block thank you... I like the Idea of the Cast Iron Block Thing.... It seems more cost efficient in this bad economy.....

Oh you know what... I do have a all cast iron 360 low compression, small injectors, cast iron heads from 1989, vertex mag, fairly competitive, Low maintenance, Lots of FUN....... but that was when we could afford to run 20 - 30 races a year.... Now you throw in 3 rebuilds during a season and Vuallah, you got moths flying out of your pocket book.....wink Dont get me wrong, I love the 410..... But I also love the 360 for other reasons...... LOW $$$ BUCKS
