I would figure Taylor Velasquez and Jaon Martin would run from the URSS end. is Smokey Fairbanks still runnin URSS?

Of course we're a ways out and it's hard to know for sure - but I bet several more from each side attend.

Im told Smokey Fairbanks is expected to attend. There will be "several" more attending as well. I just 'highlighted' a few from each group that will be there. Its going to be a great show.

I was seriously considering making the trip until I saw all of the fendered classes they are running. Anyone out there know how many they averaged during the season or have an idea of how many cars (other than sprints) they are expecting?

Around 60 to 70 cars a night. I always thought the more cars that was there the crowd got there money's worth?

When I was younger in the 70's I remember the Enid Winternationals. Most times the Sunday day races ended in the evening around 8pm. You got your money's worth. Back then it was normally only 2 classes. You had supermodifieds and modifieds one weekend. Then you had late models and one other class hobby or street stocks?

So most likely 2 or 3 heats in each class with no B mains. If thats the case, guess it might still be worth the trip.

As far as getting your moneys worth, I've sat through enough 30 minute (or longer) wreckfests in these classes over the years to cringe when anything over two or three fendered classes are listed. JMO

Another question for anyone who has been to past winter nationals in Enid, do they normally wait and race the sprints last or throw them in the mix somewhere?

OS: Typically, the OCRS sprint series addresses the evenings order format with the promoter when all classes are signed in. Number of cars per class and their nights format are taken into consideration as well as the sprint car counts and format. All efforts are made by OCRS to make everyone (fans and racers) happy with a programs line-up. In the end, It is a promoters decision as they pay the purses.

yeah its alot more fun to watch open wheel cars get strung out and run single file follow the leader who is running off with it.

OCRS has produced some really good racing this season. Go to www.ocrsracing.com and check out the number of winners to the number of races ran. Several groups would like to have this kind of parody in their organization.

Thanks for the info KOP. I am curious how the match up will go down. The URSS 305 race at Jetmore earlier this year at the Steve King Memorial was one of the best races I saw all year in any class.

Tonight there were at least two heats in each class and I think the biggest was sport mods with 24. Track was in pretty good shape, smooth with enough bite to use the petal a bit but not just stomped to the floor. Had some pretty good racin and passin. I started 24th in the limiteds and ended up 7th. As far as the wrecks in the fendered classes I don't think it was terrible but there were some. The limiteds went under red for a while because a driver had to be taken to the hosspital (precautionary measure nothing to seriouse I believe) and had quite a few cautions. Pretty good night of racing though if I do say so myself. And it wasn't even to cold, just a bit nippy. Come on down for some good race action.

hey OK slim - thats pretty cool I was at that race too.

And I fully agree - I was VERY impressed with the URSS race both nights. That was a great weekend of racing - the only downside to the whole weekend was the bad construction they had going on the Hotel thoroughfare that Boot Hill sits on. I mean, there it was a holiday weekend - and it just looked like shit. A far cry from when we went up to Dodge for 1st and only 3/8ths Nationals (in which Danny Jennings beat Gary Wright- fun time).

Fore I get carried away lol. I was suprised by URSS that weekend. They did invitation only the first night - had 31 or sumthin like that. then the next night only had 18. Reason being - URSS held a whole nother seperate race just up the road at Wakeeney. That told me times are pretty good for the URSS. But the race that second night - I'm sure you would agree - was enthralling! If I remember right - CJ Johnson took home the win - but there were 4 or 5 of them right there just dicing and trading the lead every turn. ASCS was really good up there - but the most memorable part was that URSS race on the final night. I was impressed with Jetmore's track and facility - I had only talked to a few people that had been up there and they didn't sound it off like it was that great. But it was! Track was good. Facility great - concessions and activites and exhibition type stuff were really good. And I thought Tony Bruce Jr. did an A+ job. especially considering it was his first race to ever promote - and a 10k to win race at that. I hope they do that again next year - maybe find a great weekend and put some more dough at the bottom of the purse - so they get mor elike 70-80 cars instead of 50. Not to be complaining - it was a great weekend of racing and well worth the trip. I thought URSS were pretty fast too - they looked much like our champ sprints at SFS - maybe just a tick slower but not sure. The only other time prior to that I had seen 305's was SST at Grayson County and I thought they were really slow. But that was a few years back so........

But very glad you brought that up - I was very happy to be there and see that with my family that weekend Smile
