Tucson, Arizona (October 31st, 2009) – With November just around
the corner and two of the largest racing events of 2009 nearing, two
racing icons confirm plans to compete at Tucson’s USA Raceway.
Both drivers will vie for the top prize of $15,000 and the right
to add their names to the prestigious list of past winners.
Kenny Schrader, 25 year NASCAR legend, stands on all sides of the
racing fence making not only a lucrative career in the sport but a
lifestyle that has been mimicked by some of the modern day greats.
Schrader, in his words, only knows one thing and he knows it very
well from team owner, track promoter to legendary race car driver.
His career started as a young boy racing go-carts and reached the
pinnacle most racers can only dream of. Although he made it to
the top, he has never lost sight of his roots as he will make the haul
to Tucson’s USA Raceway to take part in the $15k to win 5th
Annual Barnett Harley Davidson Wes Hurst Memorial.
Schrader, driving his own Federated Auto Parts/Phoenix Parker
Store/O’Rielly Chevrolet entry, will join a long list of the best
Modified drivers in the country all looking to take home the richest
modified payday of 2009.
“We are delighted to come to USA Raceway and be a part of this
race,” commented Schrader. “I would really like to thank
Steve Stroud of the Phoenix Parker Store and Joe Morales of
O’Rielly Chevrolet for stepping up and helping us get to Tucson.
It will be a pleasure to have these guys on board for the Wes
Hurst Memorial.”
The Wes Hurst Memorial, which takes place on the weekend following
Thanksgiving, enters its 5th year and is anticipated to be the largest
Modified event of 2009. The best of the best will tackle USA Raceway's
3/8-mile clay oval for three days on November 27, 28 and 29, with
nearly $100,000 in prize money to be distributed over the course of the
blockbuster event. An unprecedented $15,000 top prize awaits the
eventual winner as that name will be added to past champions that
include Christy Georges, Richie Tosh, Tommy Weider and 2008 winner
Terry Phillips.
Danny “The Dude” Lasoski will join Schrader in the trip to
Tucson, however, he will be coming a week early. Lasoski will be
looking to grab victory hardware and the $15,000 winners check as he
will take part in the 42nd Annual KRONIK Energy Western World
Championships presented by Old Tucson Studio’s.
Lasoski, 1991 Western World Champion, has earned a long and established
resume that ranks him as one of the top sprint car drivers ever.
Winning 4 Knoxville National Titles, 8 Knoxville Raceway
Championships, Championships in the NST and WoO and all time Knoxville
feature victory leader, Lasoski will be looking to capture his second
Western World title to add to his long list of accomplishments.
The “Dude” will make his way to Tucson and attempt to pilot
his Creason Pipeline Construction-Hoosier Tire JEI-Kisler into USA
Raceway’s victory lane.
More than one hundred sprint cars will be expected to take part in what
will be one of the biggest sprint car events in the country as drivers
from all walks will look to add their name to prestigious list of
winners.
Both the winged and wingless forces will tackle USA Raceway's 3/8-mile
clay oval for three nights on November 19th, 20th and 21st, with more
than $100,000 in "A" Feature money alone distributed over the course of
the blockbuster event. A $15,000 share awaits the winner of the Lucas
Oil ASCS season-ender on November 21st, with the Discount Tire Co. ASCS
Canyon Region conqueror on November 21 pocketing $5,000.

There were 107 Mods at the $15,000 to win Fall Nationals down in Las Cruces, NM this past weekend. Congrats to 18-year old Johnny Scott on taking that win! He out-dueled Jeremy Payne in the A-main thriller to do it!
Many of these same racers indicated that they would run the Wes Hurst Memorial too!

How bout that Tuscon weather! No rain predicted
for the next 10 days. (Benefit of living in the desert I guess....).
Highs in the 70s, lows in the 40s.

I'm going to borrow this post from Pedro Coors on Elbowsup.com...
Quote: |
I think this is Sunday's lineup so far:
Jon Tesch -- Jeremy Payne
Dereck Ramirez -- Jimmy Ray
Eric Turner -- Terry Phillips
Mike Hansen -- RC Whitwell
Jason Hughes -- Tim Donlinger
83 cars raced tonight (some were already qualified.) Lots of great cars still not qualified!! |
They started with 91 -- one flipped on Friday night I know -- they still have 87 or so.
14 make it to the A from the B today.
We have at least 4 GRTs (Payne, Turner, Phillips and Hansen) already
locked in and 3 Ramirez's (Tesch, Dereck and Donlinger). There's Jason
in his Hughes of course. Not sure about Ray and Whitwell as far as
chassis goes....
