Don't GSC or C.W. have officials that oversee the track before racing starts or is it pay your sanction fee and the rest is up to the promoter and track personal as to the type of prep they think is suitable.. We can say what we want (bitch or praise) about Soares at Petaluma but 90% of the time when a travelling group is there he seems to have a pretty well prepared track, same with Watsonville since Prentice arrived there. I know fans get mad but coming on the Internet and telling the world how bad it was at the track only discourages people from going there, in my opinion we don't need anymore tracks closers.. Maybe a bit more input from C.W. and GSC officials to the promoter concerning the type of track conditions they would like to see may help.. Just my opinion..

Track prep can not be done in one day. Which is about the time that GSC/CW officials are at the track. They can save a track and make it work if there is a track there. I can pretty much guarantee with the way that track looked that not much/if any work was done on that track throughout the week. You can't honestly expect officials who are there only on the day of the race to be able to prep the track well enough for good racing. It needs to be taken upon by the promoter of the track. Which is how it is done at every other track.
Prepping by the officials is about as much as wheel pack and hot laps. Before that all they could really dictate to them was how much water they might want on the track. But no matter how much water was dumped on the track it wasn't going to make that track any better.
You may think it is bashing. But I want to see good racing. Good racing needs a good track. Not a single lane follow the leader. They even had to cut the main event from 25 to 20 because of the bad track conditions, which was already lower than their normal 30 because of the length of the track. I would like a race worth my money. And I'm sure the drivers/owners want a racy track as well.
From what I hear they are looking to get more dates to have races out at Calistoga. If they are, they need to figure out how to prep a track or there is going to be alot of money being lost on tires and definitely a loss of some teams because they cant afford to go there more than once a year wasting 3 right rears on a single night of racing.

My concern is about track condition. Are the same people that prepared the track for the Civil War race doing the same for the USAC/CRA event?

I know, this is not exactly good PR leading up to the USAC/CRA event next month.

Last years USAC event was the BEST racing that i saw all year! After years of ho-hum, no passing, and basically boring winged racing, taking the wings off was the best thing that's happened there in a long time. Can you say "slide job"? Calistoga + non-wing = EXCITEMENT!
SUPPORT WILDLIFE, go to a sprint car race!

Agreed. Big congrats to Andy - he's been trying to win a race there for a long time. Good to see him finally get one!

Had to look WoO invert 4 for the heats, top 2 plus top 2 Quailifers that didn't finish in the top 2 in the heat make the dash ( pill draw ). So 10 cars.
So over all it's a 16 car invert in the heats. B Main is lined up off of qual time straight up.
Got to have a pill draw not an invert to set top 10.

the woo has no invert for the main. where you finish in the dash is how the first ten cars line up. the heat winners draw first, in order of what heat they were in for dash line up. then the second place finisher in the heats draws by order of heat they were in. then the cars that get in on time draw last. i don't know if you realised that, so just throwing it in. if they only run 3 heats, they still take top 2 in heats plus fastest 4 cars from qualifying not already in. yes they have basically a 16 car heat invert, 12 car if only three heats run. for a local series i kind of like the 6 car invert per heat, with the fastest car in the heat in the third row. it mixes things up and makes the faster car work for their spot, but when you line cars up for the main based on time, it really sucks. even with an invert. it almost makes heat races worthless at times. plus if you timed in poor and come from the back of your heat to transfer, or even win, you get sent to the back of the main. in the woo, you can time in poor and have a great heat and end up in the dash and start in the top ten at worst.
to indy and beyond!!
