Race Notes: Eddie Martin started on the pole and put his Tim’s Automotive & Machine powered SRP Chassis into the lead on the first lap and out-dueled Ron Jones over the first 15 laps until 8th starting Jack Sullivan blasted around the Southern New Mexico Speedway on the cushion and stole the lead from Martin with just ten laps to go. Jack then went on to lead the last 10 circuits to claim the win and the pole position for Sunday’s 50-lap $10,000 to win Winter Meltdown main event. Fellow Razorback state driver Jeff Taylor drove around Jones late in the event to steal second with Jones holding down third. Alton, Iowa racer Mike Hansen thrilled the crowd after finishing a disappointing sixth in his heat race, he wheeled his 12h from the c-main to the b-main to the a-main and then raced from 22nd to fourth in dramatic fashion. Stormy Scott came from 19th to round out the top five. Rodney Sanders raced from 18th to 6th, while 20th starting Scott Drake stormed to 7th with Martin back sliding to 8th in front of 14th starting Terry Phillips, and 23rd starting Jason Noll, who rounded out the top ten in a very entertaining 25-lap affair.
