VENTURA HOSTS WESTERN MIDGETS SATURDAY
MARCH 31, 2008 --- Ventura (Calif.) Raceway will host a USAC racing “tripleheader” Saturday. The Western Midgets, California Dirt Ford Focuses and Junior Ford Focuses are all on the program at the 1/5-mile dirt oval.
Brad Kuhn of Avon, Ind. is the current point leader in USAC’s Western Midget series after two events. He is 23 points ahead of Darren Hagen, who won the series opener in February at Phoenix, Ariz. Kuhn won March 15 at Bakersfield, Calif.
Scott Pierovich, who ranks third in the standings, bears watching Saturday, as does Robby Flock, who is not listed among the “top-10.” Pierovich finished second in last year’s final points, while Flock has four victories at the Ventura oval to his credit, the latest coming in 2006. A win Saturday would be #53 for Flock, who is second on the all-time Western Midget win list.
Saturday’s program will mark the 116th time for USAC Midgets at Ventura. Sleepy Tripp, the winner of the first race in 1986, leads all drivers with 13 wins at Ventura Raceway.
