KIERCE WINS ALL COAST 3-2-1 CHALLENGE AT VENTURA RACEWAY

VENTURA, Calif. (March 29, 2008) – Veteran sprint car racer Kevin Kierce started on the front row, led every lap and won the first race of the All Coast Construction 3-2-1 Challenge at Ventura Raceway. The first round of the special three-race series paid $2,000 to the winning driver.
Kierce, the 1999 sprint car champion at Ventura, jumped ahead quickly and maintained a small lead, which he never lost. He said he knew how big a cushion he had throughout the 30-lap race.
“I had hand signals,” Kierce, of Reseda, said as he celebrated with his crew. “I even knew that whoever was in second was running the top.”
Troy Rutherford, making his return to racing after suffering a near-fatal illness in February, finished second. Greg Taylor was third. Both live in Ojai.
Other winners included Ventura’s Bruce Douglas (in the Senior Sprints), Danny Lauer of Santa Maria (IMCA Modifieds), Mike Valentine of Canyon Lake (Lightning Sprints) and Lance Butler of Torrance (VRA Junior Focus Midgets).
The All Coast Construction 3-2-1 Challenge will resume July 12. The Raceway will maintain a separate points system for the short series and a winner will be crowned after the concluding race in the series, Nov. 15. The track will host another racing program April 5.
