FLOCK AIMS AT 53RD USAC WIN SATURDAY WHEN MIDGETS INVADE BAKERSFIELD SPEEDWAY
MARCH 17, 2008 --- Robby Flock of Murrieta, Calif. will try to increase his USAC Western Midget career victory total this Saturday night when the series visits Bakersfield (Calif.) Speedway.
Flock is an eight-time USAC Midget winner at Bakersfield, his last win coming in June of 2006. A win Saturday would vault him past Sleepy Tripp (who also has eight wins) as the winningest USAC Midget driver in Bakersfield Speedway history.
Flock passed up the series opener at Phoenix, Ariz. last month but would like nothing better than getting a head start on what would be a fifth series championship. He previously won the Western title in 1986, 1989, 1992 and 2002. He has 52 career victories, good for second on the all-time series list, but far short of Sleepy Tripp’s record of 104.
Danny Ebberts, USAC’s 2001 Western Midget Champ, is also expected to compete, along with lady drivers Shannon McQueen and Randi Pankratz. McQueen became the first female driver to win a Western Midget race last year at Madera, while Pankratz, whose father Wally won the 2000 title, owns a victory in USAC TQ competition.
Scott Pierovich, Chris Rahe and C.J. Sarna, who all recorded “top-10” point finishes last year, are also expected, along with Ford Focus graduate Paul Zimmerly and Al and Bradley Galedrige.
The series standings are sure to be revised after Saturday’s race, since the current standings reflect the top finishers in last month’s race at Phoenix, which also offered National points.
